헤겔의 관점에서 본 마음의 발달의 원리

The Principle of Development of Mind in Hegel’s View

이 연구의 목적은 마음의 발달의 원리에 관한 헤겔의 관점을 드러내어 그 교육적 의미를 살펴보는 데에 있다. 마음의 발달의 원리에 관한 헤겔의 관점은 다음과 같이 요약될 수 있다. 첫째, 마음의 발달은 유한한 마음(의식)이 ‘무한한 자유’ 또는 ‘타자 속 자기와의 관련’이라는 본성에 따라 무한한 마음(정신)으로 나아가는 자기인식이자 자기실현의 활동이다(발달의 의미). 둘째, 마음의 발달은 마음의 현 양상에 들어 있는 내적 부정성이 긍정적 계기가 되어서 필연적으로 상위 양상으로 나아가는 변증법적 운동이다(발달의 필연성). 셋째, 마음의 발달은 마음이 스스로 현 양상의 한계를 검사하여 지양하고 상위 양상을 형성함으로써 양상의 필연적인 계열을 확립해 나가는 자기검사의 활동이다(발달의 방법). 마지막으로, 이러한 의미와 필연성과 방법에 따라 수행되는 마음의 발달은, 그 발달을 수행하는 주체를 중심으로 종합해 볼 때, 유한한 마음과 무한한 마음이라는 두 가지 수준에서 이루어지는 이중적 활동이자 그 두 수준의 마음 사이에서 이루어지는 내적 교섭 활동이다(발달의 주체). 그리하여 헤겔의 이러한 관점에서 볼 때, 교육은 마음의 발달의 원리를 현실화하는 근본적인 세력이다. 교육은 유한한 마음이 자기의 ‘한계’를 스스로 극복하도록 이끄는 그 내부의 무한한 마음의 자기활동이자 무한한 마음과의 교섭 활동이기 때문이다. 그리고 이 교육의 사태에서 교사는 학생이 자기를 비추어 보는 거울이 되어서 학생의 유한한 마음에 잠재되어 있는 무한한 마음으로서의 정신을 일깨우는, 그 정신의 대리인이라는 의미를 가진다.

The purpose of this study is to clarify Hegel’s view on the principle of development of mind, and exhibit its educational implication. His view is shown up as follows: first, the development of mind means the activity of self-knowing and self-realization in which finite mind(Consciousness, Bewußtsein) takes hierarchical steps toward infinite mind(Spirit, Geist) according to its nature as ‘infinite freedom’, that is, ‘self’s relation to self in others’. Second, the necessity of the development exists in the dialectical movement in which finite mind can not but go ahead by steps to higher modes according to its inner negativity, that is, painful but gainful power. Third, the method of the development is the self-test by which finite mind can transcend its present limit in itself, establish its own sequential modes, and consequently comprehend a total system of them. And finally, in view of subject as its starting point and its pivotal point, the development is a duplicate activity of two levels of finite mind and infinite mind, and moreover a conversational interaction between the two, in so far as it is grounded on the proper meaning and necessity, and guided by the method. Therefore, in this view of Hegel, education is the fundamental power which realizes the principle of development of mind. For, it is the self-activity of human race’s spirit as infinite mind, and the conversational interaction with a teacher as its personal representative who has already realized its infinite mind in his/her own way, by whom a student is put in the way of realizing its infinite mind latent in himself/herself.
