인성교육과 가정교육

Character Education and Home Education

가정교육은 학교교육과 종류상 다른 상이한 범주의 것으로 파악된다. 이것은 양자의 차이를 범주간의 차이로 보는 견해이다. 그러나 가정교육에서 전달되는 내용에 초점을 맞추어 생각해 보면, 가정교육은 학교교육과 상이한 내용을 전달하는 것이 아니라 동일한 내용을 상이한 수준으로 취급할 뿐이다. 이것은 양자의 차이를 범주내의 차이로 보는 견해이다. 정도상의 차이가 있을지언정 가정교육과 학교교육은 인성을 함양하는 동일한 길을 걷고 있다. 그러나 그렇다고 하여, 가정교육이 인성을 함양하는 일에 특이점이라고 할 만한 것이 전혀 없는 것은 아니다. 특별히 가정교육에서 강조될 법한 효는 자식이 부모의 덕을 자신의 것으로 삼으려는 정서적 태세를 가리키는 것으로서, 학교의 교과를 배우는 데에 근원적인 힘으로 작용한다. 이와 같이 가정교육은 학교의 교과교육을 가능하게 하는 원초적 세력에 해당한다고 말할 수 있다. 효를 비롯한 가정교육의 다양한 매체들은 모두 한 인간을 훌륭한 인간으로 키우는 일, 즉 인성교육으로 귀결된다.

The home education is regarded as the another thing which is categorically different from the schooling. This is to interpret the difference between home education and schooling as inter-categorical difference. But, as is clear from the contents of home education, it is categorized into the same thing with the schooling which is distinguished from it only in scale. This shows that the difference between home education and schooling corresponds to intra-categorical difference. There being the difference in degree, home education and schooling stand in the same line of the cultivation of the moral character. But though this view of home education as different from schooling in degree is undoubtedly true, it must not be neglected that home education has special contributions to the cultivation of the moral character. The filial piety of children to their parents, for example, is virtue or power which makes a child live in accordance with his parent s virtue. And it is also the starting point from which we can begin to study school subjects. The home education, it might be said, is the ‘media’ that refers to the primordial influences which exerts on teaching school subjects. Thus, the media of home education including filial piety provides a typical example of character education, in which we are led into becoming a person.
