Transcendental Philosophy and the Cultivation of Mind-Nature : Moral Implication of Kant s Concept of a priori PDF icon

칸트 철학은 이념, 또는 표현 이전의 표준으로서의 심성이 현상 또는 개념을 초월해 있으면서 동시에 내재해 있다는 것을 골자로 한다. 그의 이러한 견해는 심성의 함양과는 별도로 심성의 의미를 규정하려는 전통 형이상학의 시도가 그릇된 것임을 보여준다. 그러나 심성은 표현 ‘이전’이라는 점 때문에 심성함양의 방법을 구체적으로 밝히지 않는 한 교육의 독단적 목적으로 간주될 소지가 있다. 반성적 판단에서 상상력의 작용은 개념의 획득이 심성의 함양을 보장한다는 점을 ‘공통 감각’에 비추어 설명해준다. 개념의 획득과정은 이념의 심리적 대응물인 공통 감각을 매개로 하여 개념과 이념이 부단히 상호작용하는 해석학적 순환의 과정으로 이해되며, 우리는 이 과정을 통해서 심성을 획득하게 된다. 개념과 이념의 해석학적 순환은 심성의 의미가 심성함양의 방법에 의하여 규정된다는 점을 보여준다.

In this study, Kant s philosophy is taken to imply the view that Idea as the a priori , or Mind-Nature as the unmanifested standard of our life is not only transcendent over, but immanent in the sensible world and the knowledge of it. If this view is valid, the traditional metaphysics should be rejected as mistaken, because it assumes that Mind-Nature can be defined without regard to the process of the cultivation of Mind-Nature. When applied to education, it necessarily introduces Mind-Nature as a dogmatic purpose which is separated from the process of education. But it must be noted that Mind-Nature cannot properly be defined without considering the process of education. For, Mind-Nature is the unmanifested standard which can only be manifested in and through the process of education. As we can see from Kant s philosophy, the imagination as an activity of sensus communis in reflective judgment turns out to imply that the cultivation of Mind-Nature depends on knowledge acquisition. And the process of knowledge acquisition can be explained in terms of the ceaseless interaction between concept and Idea, which is based on sensus communis as a psychological counterpart of the latter. It may be said here that the interaction produces the so-called hermeneutical circle . The hermeneutical circle between concept and Idea clearly shows that Mind-Nature can properly be defined only by the process or the method of cultivating it.
