인물 관찰을 통한 수묵채색화 수업사례 연구

A Sumuk-Color Painting Course Based on Observing People

학생들은 그리기를 두려워하고, 수묵채색화같이 익숙하지 않는 경우 기술적으로 더욱 어려워하는 경향이 있다. 교과서의 학습문제가 주로 대상의 재현에 따른 기법 위주로 제시되고 있기 때문이다. 수묵채색화 관련 부분에서도 학습문제는 묵법 위주로 제시되고 있는데, 표현하고자 하는 ‘무엇’보다 ‘어떻게’ 나타낼지를 더 강조하고 있는 셈이다. 자신만의 관점과 시선을 대상에 투영하며, 그리기가 나와 세계를 이해하고 타자와 소통하는 기회가 될 수 있는 프로그램을 개발할 필요가 있다. 이 연구는 예비교사들을 대상으로 한 수묵채색화 수업 프로그램과 결과물을 정리한 것으로, 교실에서 친구를 관찰하고 그 외모와 내면을 어떻게 나타내는지 수업사례를 통해 다음과 같은 교육적인 의의를 이끌어냈다. 첫째, 대상의 외모를 관찰하고 그림에 내면을 드러내고자하였다. 둘째, 기술적인 결과보다 과정의 의미를 질문하고 생각하는 기회가 되었다. 셋째, 대상의 재현은 물론 자신만의 시각과 감성을 표현하고자 했다. 넷째, 서로 보고그리기를 통해 이해하고 소통하는 예술교육의 의미와 가치를 탐구할 수 있었다.

Students are generally afraid of painting, finding it technically challenging particularly when they are not familiar with the medium. This is due largely to the technique-oriented curriculum, where the central goal is to faithfully represent reality. Textbook sections on Sumuk-color painting tend to focus on techniques of brushstroke, emphasizing ‘how’ to paint more than ‘what’ to paint. There is a need for a course that guides students to internalize their subjects, to project their own views on their work, and to let them understand painting as a means for learning about themselves and the world and to communicate with others. This paper presents a case study of a Sumuk-color painting course taught for prospective teachers. It began by observing friends in classroom and expressing their appearance as well as inner minds. A number of pedagogical results are reported. First, students observed their subjects appearance and tried to portray their inner minds. Second, rather than focusing on technical results, students reflected on the significance of the process of observing and painting. Third, students tried not only to faithfully represent their subjects but also to reflect their own perspectives and feelings. Lastly, through mutual observation and painting, students explored art education as an opportunity for understanding and communicating.
