청소년의 자아존중감 및 자기표현 향상을 위한 사진교육 프로그램 연구

A Study on a Photo Education Program for Improving Self-esteem and Self-expression of the Youth: A Case of LTP

우리나라의 대다수 청소년들은 대학 입시 중심의 주입식 교육으로 인해 자기를 표현하고 자아를 탐구하는 기회가 매우 부족한 교육 환경 속에 놓여있다. 청소년기에는 자아정체감 형성이 최우선의 발달 과업이므로 청소년기에 해당하는 중·고등학생들에게긍정적 자아존중감 및 자기표현 향상을 도울 수 있는 교육 프로그램이 절실히 필요하다. 본 연구의 목적은 청소년의 자아존중감 및 자기표현 향상을 위한 사진교육 방안으로서 미국의 LTP(Literacy Through Photograp-hy) 프로그램을 모델로 수업 프로그램을 개발하고 실행하여 그 성과를 고찰해보는 것이다. LTP 프로그램을 중·고등학생들에게 적용한 후 자아존중감 및 자기표현에 대한 사전-사후 검사와 설문지, 학생 작품, 교사에 의한 평가지를 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. LTP 프로그램에서 학생들은 자연스럽게 자기 자신의 장점과 특징을 탐색하고, 성찰하며, 사진으로 표현해보는 과정을경험하고, 각자가 직접 찍은 사진에 대한 자신의 생각과 느낌을 동료 학생들과 교사 앞에서 발표하고 나누어 봄으로써 긍정적인 자아존중감 및 자기표현이 향상되었을 뿐 아니라 자기와 주변 환경에 대한 인식을 새롭게 확장할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 LTP 프로그램이 청소년의 자아존중감 및 자기표현 향상에 효과가 있음을 실제로 검증하고, 기능중심의 사진교육에서 벗어나 주제 중심의 사진교육 프로그램의 가능성을 보여준 점, 그리고 사진교육을 통해 학생의 자아존중감 및 자기표현을 향상하고자 하는 교사들에게실질적인 사례를 제공했다는 점에서 교육적 의의와 가치를 찾을 수 있다.

Today s Korean youth live with the lack of opportunities for self-expression and self-exploration due to their educational system centered on cramming method of teaching for university entrance examination. Since identity formation is the critical developmental task during the period of adolescence, it is necessary to offer an education program for improving their self-esteem and self-expression. This study has examined the result of the LTP(Literacy Through Photography) program as a strategy to enhance self-esteem and self-expression. The researchers have developed and implemented the LTP program to 18 Korean middle school and high school students and curriculum, and assess their self-esteem and self-expression using the Self-esteem Inventory and Self-Directed Assertiveness Training as well as pre-post surveys and student photographs. Through the LTP program e result of the study is the following: Pre-to post-test improvements were significant for self-esteem and self-expression. The youth s self-esteem and self-expression has been enhanced and their perceptions of the self and their environment through the LTP program, in which students could explore, reflect, and express their merits and characteristics, and present and share their feelings and thoughts about their photographs that they had taken. The value of this study is to prove the effect of the LPT on enhancing self-esteem and self-expression of the youth and provide an actual case for photography education for the youth.
