미술가의 서명을 통한 미술사 교육 연구

A Study on Art History Education through Artist’s Signature

본 연구는 미술사 교육의 대안적인 학습 내용으로서 미술가의 서명이 갖는 역할과의미를 고찰하고, 서명으로 읽는 미술 수업 교재를 개발하여 실제 현장에 적용하고 미술 교육적 의미를 논의하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 연구자는 미술사 문헌을 토대로, 미술가의 서명의 유형을 논의하고, 서명의 역할과 의미를 크게 미술가의 삶을 매개하는서명, 시대상과 문화를 반영하는 서명, 창의적 도구로서 서명으로 구분하여 고찰하였다. 이를 바탕으로 서명을 통한 미술 읽기 수업을 개발, 적용하였다. 이러한 수업의 미술 교육적 함의는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 미술 작품의 서명은 미술가 개인의 삶과 가치관을 보여주기도 하지만 동시에 당시의 시대상과 문화를 반영하기도 한다. 둘째, 작품과의 관계 속에서 서명의 위치, 크기, 형식 등은 작품을 새롭게 읽는 단서를 제공한다. 셋째, 서명을 통한 미술사 교육은 학생들이 다양한 관점에서 작품을 읽을 수 있는 능력을 고취시키도록 한다. 넷째, 학생 자신의 서명을 만들고 표현하는 활동을 통해 자신의 정체성을 돌아볼 수 있었으며, 창의적인 표현 대상으로서 서명의 가치를 인식하였다.

This study investigates the roles and meaning of the artists’ signature as an alternative content for art history education. This study discussed the types of artist’s signatures, and explored its roles and meanings. The signature mediates the artist’s life, serves as a creative object, and reflects history and culture. Based on these findings, I developed the art lesson reading artworks through signatures and applied it in the school. Its significances are as follows. First, the artist signature shows the individual artist’s life and perspectives and at the same time reflects the socio-cultural condition. Second, like any other elements of artwork, the artist’s signature as an element of creative expression has been changed by individual intent and culture. Third, the art history education through the signature encourages students’ reading artworks with diverse perspectives. Fourth, through the activity of making their own signature on their artworks, they reflected their own identity and recognized the value of the signature as an element of creative expression.
