초등 3, 4학년 미술교과서 서예 영역의 개선 방안

The Method of Improving the Caligraphy Part the in the Textbooks of 3rd and 4th Grades of Elementary School

3, 4학년 미술교과서는 2007년 개정되어 2010년부터 초등학교에 보급되고 있다. 설문에 따르면, 교사들은 이 중 전통미술 관련 단원을 지루하거나 가르치기 싫은 것으로 나타났는데 그 이유는 실습하기에 불편한 환경과 흥미도가 낮은 프로그램 때문이다. 특히 서예 영역은 바른 자세로 서제를 임서하는 전통적인 방식을 여전히 고수하고있어 글씨를 통해서 작가의 성정을 표현한다는 서예의 정의와도 차이가 있을 뿐만 아니라 미술과의 목표인 미적 감수성이나 창의적 표현 능력, 비평 능력을 키우는 것과도거리가 있다. 학습자의 삶과 문화를 반영할 수 있는 목표를 다시 설정할 필요가 있는것이다. 출처가 없는 숙련된 성인의 글씨 대신 정평이 있는 옛 글씨를 서제로 삼아야하고, 나아가서는 컴퓨터의 옛 글씨 서체를 활용하여 학습자가 쓰고 싶은 서제를 선택할 수 있게 해야 한다. 임서가 학습과정이라면 창작은 서예의 최종 목표이므로 적어도낙관에서라도 창의성을 발휘할 기회를 주거나, 이를 바탕으로 자신만의 글씨를 쓰거나그림을 곁들이는 등 창작 서예를 시도하는 것도 좋은 방법이다.

The textbooks of 3rd and 4th grades of elementary school were revised in 2007 and have been supplied to schools since 2010. According to a survey,teachers have shown to dislike the units of traditional art in the textbooks,because of uncomfortable environment to practice and uninteresting programs featured in the units. Especially the calligraphy part still maintains a traditional way of making a copy of an example text according to correct techniques, which conflicts with the definition of calligraphy as an expression of one’s nature and is also distant from the goal of art education to develop aesthetic sensibility, creative expressivity and critical ability. This suggests the necessity of resetting a goal which can reflect life and culture of a learner. Instead of using technically well-written characters with an unknown source, it is better to use a copy of old acknowledged writings as an example text and better still, to select one on the learner’s will using a computer. As expression is the ultimate goal of calligraphy while copy-training is just a process of learning, it is recommendable to give a chance to a learner at least to express his/her creativity in signatures, and based on this practice, let him/her attempt creative calligraphy such as writing in his/her own style or adding a drawing.
