Conceptualization of Art Education to Facilitate Students’ Creativity and Humanity: Consilience and Humanistic Value of Art Education

본 논문은 통섭과 미술교육의 인문학적 가치에 근거한 미술과 창의·인성 교육 방안에 대해 논의한다. 창의적인 사고와 인성함양이라는 교육 목표는 통섭을 지향한 미술교육이 지닌 인문학적 가치를 탐구하는 쟁점중심미술교육에 의해 전개될 수 있음을 설명하고자 한다. 활발히 논의되고 있는 STEAM 융합 교육이나 통섭의 논리들이 창의적인 사고의 전환을 강조한다. 하지만 인성적 측면에 대한 고려가 미흡한 실정이다. 따라서 창의와 통섭의 논리가 인간 삶의 양상을 창의적이고 융합적으로 재조명하려는인문학적인 가치와 관련되어야 한다는 점에서 인성교육과 결부지어 설명하고자 한다. 이를 위해 우선 3C 사고(창의적, 비평적, 배려적)와 3C 전략(융합, 소통, 통섭)을 논의한다. 그리고 3C 사고와 3C 전략과 창의와 통섭에 결부된 인문학적인 가치들을 조명하며 쟁점중심미술교육이 대안적 창의·인성 교육 방안이 될 수 있음을 제안한다. 이를 통해 본 논문은 미술과 창의·인성교육은 미술교육이 지향해야 하는 인문학적 가치를 탐구하는 쟁점중심 접근법이 되어야 한다는 이론적 논의를 마련하고자 한다.

This study discusses the facilitation of students creativity and humanity,in balance, through art education. The main investigation looks at the humanistic value of art education. This value provides an overall framework that embraces the need for consilience as a vehicle to develop students creativity and humanity. Although it is theoretical, issue-based approaches to art education are proposed as an alternative concept to incorporate this value into art education that fosters creativity and humanity. The recent trend emphasizing STEAM and consilience requires a new understanding about creative thinking. Therefore, it pushes our inquiry into art education and ways to enhance students creativity. The humanistic value of art education comes from upholding a student s humanity. There, however,remains much to do in achieving this goal. Therefore, this paper insists that seeking humanistic value in art education is a necessary path to develop students creativity and humanity. This newly proposed advocacy assumes that art education pursuing creativity and consilience is closely related to humanistic value as it highlights our life in a creative and integrated manner. To expand this idea, “3C thinking” and “3C strategy” is presente4d as an approach to encourage students creativity and humanity through issue-based approaches to art education. This paper opens the way for more future practical research and further discourse regarding this theoretical orientation.
