A Teacher s Reflective Practice: A Case Study of an Art Class on Andy Warhol

본 연구는 수업계획과 실천의 과정을 통해 미술수업을 분석하고 이를 교사의 반성적시각을 통해 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 대중문화와 결합된 예술이자 대표적인현대미술의 장르인 팝아트를 주제로 하여, 앤디 워홀의 작품을 초등학교 미술수업에서감상하고 표현하는 과정을 기술하고 분석한 것이다. 본 연구에서 교사는 앤디워홀의작품을 제재로 미술수업을 진행하였다. 현재 아동의 삶은 대중매체와 영상매체에 밀접하게 접하여 있고 그 영향력은 매우 크다. 이러한 아동의 관심을 반영한 교육은 학습자가 흥미와 재미를 가지고 미술활동에 적극 참여 할 수 있도록 한다. 나아가 일상의소재 또한 예술적 가치가 있으며 예술과 생활이 밀접한 관련성이 있음을 알고 학습자가 대중문화와 관련된 다양한 이미지들을 비판적으로 해석하고 선별하는 능력을 기를수 있다. 동시에 미술을 통해서 사회를 이해하도록 하는 시야를 제공할 수 있다. 본연구에서는 앤디워홀의 작품을 활용한 교사의 수업을 되돌아보았고 이를 코트하겐의반성의 단계와 연계하여 그 과정을 기록하였다. 그 과정에서 교사는 자신의 실천을 의미 있는 텍스트로 해석해내며 지식과 교육적 행위, 미술과 아동의 표현 사이의 반성적인 절차를 이해하고 있음을 알 수 있었다.

This is a study on a teacher’s reflective practice in an art class. The class is about Pop Art that combines art and popular culture, as a kind of contemporary art. Activities on art appreciation and expression about Andy Warhol s works in the elementary art class were described from the view of a teacher in this study. The role of reflection in teachers’ professional development is very important. A teacher turns to face his class through reflection. Through reflective thinking, teachers’ ability will be improve. In a word, the teacher s reflection is to connect with teacher s class specialty. In this study, I intended to analyze the lesson plans and practice over the courses of an art class and the view of teachers through teachers’ reflection. The reason that Andy worhol s art works was chosen was as follows. children’s life is closely related to the mass media and the influence of visual images of idol stars is so powerful nowadays. As a result, knowledge and educational activity, between artworks and children s reflection, was distinguished. It helped understanding of procedures and behavior. In his class, the teacher used the images of art works of Andy Warhol and recorded the steps in each process of the art class. In the process, the meaning of the practice of teachers is found in his own interpretation to the text. The reflective thinking would be useful in teacher education as the result of this study.
