다문화 미술교육의 접근 방안 연구

A Study on Approaches to Practice in Multicultural Art Education

본 연구의 목적은 다문화 미술교육의 실현을 위한 방안으로 미술과 교육과정과 현재 출판된 중학교 미술 교과서의 다문화 교육 관련 내용을 검토하여 미술과 교육과정, 교과서, 교수학습 방법의 방향을 제시하고자 한다. 이를 위해 연구자는 다문화 미술교육의 이론과 교육과정의 접근 방안을 살펴보고 미술 교과서를 양적, 질적으로 분석하여 보았다. 2007년 미술과 교육과정에 따른 미술 교과서에 비해 다문화 관련 교육내용이 확대되었으나 서구권의 작품이 더 많으며 여성 작가의 작품이 부족한 것으로 나타났다. 좀더 다양한 문화권의 작품선정과 아울러 문화적 편견감소와 협력을 추구하는 내용을 교과서에서 체계적으로 제시해줄 필요성이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이를 위해 다문화 교육에서 제시하는 교육과정 접근방식의 개선과 다문화 미술교육 관련 연구에서 제시하는 인류학적, 사회재건주의적 접근 방식을 고려할 필요가 있다. 이의 실천방안으로 미술 작품을 통한 문화적·미적 다원성의 학습과 비판적 사고력 신장, 삶과 통합된 미술과 교수학습 방안을 제시하고자 한다.

Multicultrualism is advocated by scholars and educators in most school subjects. Especially, Korea is turning to multicultural society in terms of demographic changes due to increasing international marriages and globalization. There are growing needs for multicultural education in art classrooms. To provide educational tools for multicultural art, art textbooks should be a significant role for students and teachers. This study addresses review of literature related to multiculturlism and multicultural art education. 9 kinds of middle school art textbooks and National Art Curriculums are analyzed. The researcher introduces the numbers of European and non-European artworks, the numbers of male artists and female artists for cultural diversity in middle school art textbooks. The study shows the growing numbers of artworks from diverse cultural backgrounds but the textbooks need alternative approaches to making and interpreting artworks instead of the dominant European and male-artist perspectives. To help teachers develop multicutlrual art class, the author suggests that socio-anthropologist and social reconstructionist perspectives for pedagocial approaches to art education need to be implemented for teaching. It is critical that we need to shift the emphasis from the formal elements and principles of design to an investigation of the artists , ethnic, social, political, and artistic cultural roles and memberships. Therefore art educators should help our students to look at artworks and popular culture from diverse perspectives by recognizing our own assumptions and stereotypes of others.
