“영유아 관찰 및 행동연구”의 수업 개선을 통한 예비유아교사의 관찰역량 변화 탐색

An exploration of changes in the preservice early childhood teachers’ observational capacity through teaching improvement efforts in the “Children Observation and Behavior Research” course

본 연구는 “영유아 관찰 및 행동연구” 교과목의 수업 개선을 통한 예비유아교사의 관찰역량 변화를살펴보기 위해 실행연구를 실시하였다. 연구 참여자는 2018년 2학기 G대학 유아교육과에 개설된 영유아관찰 및 행동연구를 수강한 학생 61명이었다. 자료구성은 2018년 7월부터 2019년 2월까지 이루어졌고, 관찰, 면담, 기타자료 등이었다. 자료 분석은 Miles와 Huberman(1994)의 질적 자료 분석과정에 따라 자료의감환, 자료 배열, 결론도출 과정을 거쳤다. 연구결과는 첫째, “이젠 두렵지 않아요”: 현장 관찰에 대한 자신감향상, 둘째, “주의 깊게 보는 것이 관찰의 끝이 아니었어요”: 체계적 관찰의 중요성 인식, 셋째, “다른 전공지식도 알아야 해요”: 전공지식의 필요성 인식, 넷째, “배운 것을 현장에서 해보니 도움이 되었어요”: 현장적용이 가능하게 됨과 같이 변화되었다. 본 연구는 예비유아교사들의 관찰 역량 향상을 위해 수업을 개선하고 학생들의 변화를 살펴봄으로 예비유아교사를 양성하는 대학의 교과 운영에 대한 시사점을 제공한다는점에서 의의가 있다.

Action research was conducted to explore changes in the preservice early childhood teachers’ observational capacity through teaching implrovement efforts in “Children Observation and Behavior Research” course. The participants of the study were 61 college students who took the course that opened at an early childhood education department of G University in the second semester of 2018. The data were collected from July 2018 to February 2019 through observations, interviews, and related documents. The data included workbooks, exchanged notes, and observation notes written by students, and class evaluation results, faculty meeting minutes, and researchers journals recorded by researchers. Data were analyzed according to the qualitative data analysis process of Miles and Huberman (1984). The findings were as follows. 1) “I have no more fear”: An improved confidence in field observation, 2) “Careful observation is not enough”: Recognition of the importance of observation, 3) “I need to learn other subject contents”: Recognition of the necessity of other subject content knowledge, 4) “Application of theory into practice is helpful”: An improved confidence in practical application of theory. This study implies how courses in teacher training programs need to be developed to improve student teachers’ observational capability and their professional qualities.
