인생태도의 심리치료적 활용을 위한 Tony White의 확장적 관점에 관한 시사점

Implications on expended Perspective of Tony White for Psychotherapeutic Use of Life Position

본 연구는 현재 교류분석이론에서 널리 보편적으로 인식하고 사용하고 있는 F. Ernst의 네 가지 인생태도를 심리치료적 차원에서의 활용 가능성을 탐색해 보고자 Tony White가 변경, 확장한 일곱 가지 인생태도를 고찰하였다. 이는 기존 네 가지 태도 중 I+ U+, I- U+, I- U- 세 가지는 그대로, I+ U- 태도는 I- U--로 변경, I+ U?, I- U?, I++ U+ 세 가지는 추가된 태도가 그 내용들이다. Tony White는 Ernst의 ‘ok 목장’으로 설명되는 태도의 이동은 상황에 따라 변하는 감정적 표면적 수준의 태도이고, 표면적 수준의 태도 밑에 자리 잡고 있는 성격 수준의 태도를 구분하여 변경과 추가된 태도의 이해를 제공하고자 하였고 이의 내용을 살펴보았다. 그리하여 I+ U+ 태도 보다 인간적인 태도로 I++ U+ 태도의 유용성을 논의하였고, 성격장애 스펙트럼 상에서 병리를 보이는 내담자 상담에서 I+ U?, I- U? 태도와 연관된 경계선, 의존성 성격장애의 태도 특성과 이에 대한 상담 전략을 고찰, 논의하였고 이에 대한 실제 상담에서의 유용성과 시사점을 제시하였다.

Franklin J. Ernst theorized that there are four major classes of outcomes from social encounters. This theory has been universally recognized by the field of Transactional Analysis. In order to study its applicability from a psychotherapeutic stance, Tony White has researched and expanded the theory from four to seven outcomes. Of the original four outcomes, three remained unchanged, I+ U+, I- U+, I-U-, the outcome I+ U- was replaced by I- U-, and I+ U?, I- U?, I++ U+ were the three additional outcomes. Using Ernst’s ‘Ok Corral’, White found that the changes in outcome were explained by the changes in surface level emotions. Below this was a personality component level that explained the changes and additional classes of outcome. White compared I++ U+ as a more humanistic outcome than I+ U+. He examined the link between the outcomes I+ U and I- U. as well as the outcome characteristics of individuals with borderline and dependent personality disorder. Following this, recommendations for the therapeutic approach for these types of clients were discussed in terms of its usefulness and implications.
