Convergence Liberal Arts Education to Strengthen Character Competency at University: Focused on ‘Classic Reading and Writing’ Course

이 연구의 목적은 대학의 교양교육에서 실천해야 할 인문교양교육의 방향성을 밝히고, 미래사회의 핵심역량인 ‘인성역량’ 개발을 위한 ‘고전 읽기와 글쓰기’를 연계한 융합교양교육 프로그램을 설계·개발·예시하는 것이다. 연구의 이론적 기초로서 대학 교양교육과 미래사회의 핵심역량, 인성교육과 대학 인문교양교육, 인성역량 개발을 위한 융합교양 강좌 운영의 가능성을 중심으로 고찰하였다. 탐색한 이론에 기초하여 대학의 교양교육에서 인성역량 강화를 위한 인문학 융합교육 프로그램인 ‘고전 읽기와 글쓰기’ 강좌의 수업계획서(안)를 설계·개발·예시하였다. 연구 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대학 교양교육과 연계한 인성교육의 이론을 중점적으로 탐색하고, 인성교육 방법으로써 ‘고전 읽기와 글쓰기’의 적용 가능성을 제시하였다. 둘째, 대학 교양강좌에서 인문학 연계 융합교육인 ‘고전 읽기와 글쓰기’를 연계한 인성교육을 위한 수업지도안을 개발·제시하였다. 결론적으로 대학의 교양교육에서 ‘고전 읽기와 글쓰기’를 중심으로 하는 인문학연계 융합교양교육 프로그램은 미래사회가 요구하는 핵심역량 개발이나 인성기반 (비)교과 활동 프로그램으로 활용이 가능할 것으로 판단된다. 대학에서 인성교육 활성화를 위한 후속 연구의 주제는 각 대학별 인재상과 교육목표를 반영한 인성역량과 하위요소를 추출하여, 대학별 특색을 반영한 교양교육과 (비)교과 교육을 연계한 프로그램의 개발과 실천, 대학생 인성교육의 효과 측정을 위한 평가 연구를 제안하였다.

The purpose of the study was to clarify the direction of liberal arts education to be carried out in liberal arts education at universities, and to design and develop a convergence liberal arts education program linked with ‘Classic Reading and Writing’ course to develop ‘character competency’ as a core competency in the future society. As a theoretical basis of the research, it was explored that liberal arts education and core competence in the future society, character education and humanities education at university, and the possibility of operating a convergence liberal arts course for the character development. Based on the searched theory, the researcher designed, developed and exemplified a class plan for classical reading and writing courses as a humanities convergence education program for strengthening character competency in liberal arts education at a university. Based on the synthesized theories, the researcher designed, developed, and exemplified the instructional plan for ‘Classical Reading and Writing’ course as a humanities convergence education program for strengthening character competencies in liberal arts education in universities. The results of the study were summarized as follows: Firstly, it focused on exploring the theory of character education in connection with college liberal arts education and suggested the possibility of applying Classic Reading and Writing course as a character education method. Secondly, the researcher developed and presented an instructional plan for character education in connection with ‘Classic Reading and Writing’, which is a liberal arts-related convergence education in college. In conclusion, it was judged that the liberal arts-related convergence education program centered on ‘Classic Reading and Writing’ in university liberal arts education can be used as a core competency development or character-based (non)curricular activity program required by the future society. The following studies are suggested for facilitating character education at universities: (1) the research on the program linked liberal arts education with (non)curricular education reflecting the characteristics of each university by extracting character competency and sub-elements reflecting the talents and educational goals of each university and (2) evaluation studies to measure the effectiveness of these character education programs.
