‘사교육’ 개념에 대한 비판적 검토

A Critical Review on the Concept of ‘private education’

이 연구는 기존 ‘교육학’의 ‘사교육’ 연구에서 사용되던 ‘사교육’ 개념에 대한 비판적 검토를 목적으로 수행되었다. 이를 위해 우선 기존 ‘교육학’에서의 ‘사교육’ 개념이 등장하고 일반화될 수 있었던 몇몇 상황적 여건들을 검토하는 방식으로 ‘사교육’ 개념에 대한 역사적 검토를 수행하였으며, 이와 더불어 ‘사교육’ 연구에 대한 구분을 시도한 몇 가지 연구물을 고찰하였다. 이러한 고찰을 바탕으로 ‘사교육’ 연구를 “관습적 교육관에 터한 비이론적 접근”과 “여타 분과학문의 개념 체계에 기반한 이론적 접근”으로 범주화하여 비판적 입장에서 검토하였다. 우선, “관습적 교육관에 터한 비이론적 접근”에서는 학교와 ‘교육’을 분리시키지 못한 상태에서 학교에서 이루어지는 모종의 사태를 ‘교육’으로 보고 학교 밖에서 이러한 사태들이 이루어지는 사태를 ‘사교육’으로 개념화하거나, 마찬가지로 관습적 교육관에 터해 있는 비이론적 ‘교육열’ 개념을 통해 ‘사교육’을 설명하고 있음을 검토하였다. 다음으로, “여타 분과학문의 개념 체계에 기반한 이론적 접근”에서는 기존 ‘교육학’의 ‘사교육’ 연구가 경제학, 사회학, 철학 등의 여타 분과학문의 개념 체계에 터해 이루어지고 있으며, 이 때문에 ‘사교육’ 역시도 여타 분과학문적 개념 체계를 토대로 개념화되고 있음을 검토하고 그 문제점을 드러내고자 하였다. 이후 본 연구에서 다루지 못한 기능주의적 ‘사교육’ 개념에 대한 연구를 과제로 남기고, 이를 수행하기 위한 연구의 방향성을 개요 수준에서 제시하며 연구를 마무리하였다.

This study was conducted with the aim of a critical review for the concept of ‘private education’ used in the study of ‘private education’ of existing ‘education’. For this aim, a historical review of the concept of ‘private education’ was carried out in a way that examines some contextual conditions under which the concept of ‘private education’ in the existing ‘education’ could have emerged and been generalized. In addition, several studies attempted to distinguish between ‘private education’ studies were discussed in this study. Based on this consideration, the study of ‘private education’ was categorized into “non-theoretical approaches based on conventional education views” and “theoretical approaches based on the conceptual framework of other branch science texts” and reviewed from a critical standpoint. First of all, in the “non-theoretical approach to conventional education,” certain situations at school without separating ‘education’ from school were regarded as ‘education’ and either the situations taking place outside of school were conceptualized as ‘private education’ or the ‘private education’ was explained through the concept of ‘educational fever’ based on conventional views. Next, in the “theoretical approach based on other conceptual framework of branch science”, the study of ‘private education’ in existing ‘education’ was conducted based on the academic conceptual system of other branches such as economics, sociology, and philosophy. For this reason, this study reviewed that ‘private education’ is also conceptualized based on other disciplined conceptual systems and attempted to reveal its problems. Subsequently, the study on functional concepts of ‘private education’ which were not covered in this study was left to further task and the direction of the study to carry out the task was suggested at the overview level.
