Phenomenological study on the relationship with shelter youth experienced by shelter workers

The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship experiences of shelter workers with youth using shelter through phenomenological research methods, and to reveal the essential structure of the experience. Giorgi s phenomenological analysis method was applied to conduct in-depth interviews with 6 shelter workers and to analyze the data. As a result of the data analysis, 17 sub-components, 7 components, and 4 categories were derived. The categories were derived as “forming the first relationship”, “relationship impact”, “erased misunderstandings, and interests arising”, and “for better relationship formation”. The study is significant in that it examined the nature of what shelter workers experienced in the formation of relationships with shelter youth. In addition, it can be said that it is meaningful to provide basic materials that can help the shelter workers to understand the experience and process of forming relationships with youth using a shelter in the future. Finally, limitations of this study and suggestions for follow-up studies were presented.
