조보와 실록

Jobo and Sillok

조보에는 군주의 동정과 인사 내용 및 국정 시행사, 전국에서 올라온 상소 등다양한 내용이 수록되었다. 승정원에서 발행된 일종의 관보로, 오늘날의 신문과 유사한 기능을 수행했다. 조보는 국정 시행사가 지방 소읍까지 전달되어 통치체제를 공고히 하는데 이용되었을 뿐만 아니라, 소통을 위한 언론 기능을 수행했다. 비밀주의 원칙에 따라볼 수 없었던 사초에 비해, 공개성이 담보된 조보는 당대 역사와 정국 운영을 파악할 수 있는 근거자료였다. 무엇보다 『실록』 편찬 시 중요한 자료로 이용되었다는 사실은 사초와 동일하게 인식되었음을 증명한다. 조보와 실록의 연관성과 사학사적 의미 부여가 가능한 이유이다.
