Research about the properties and applications of GyoBanSuJi : paper which is coated with a mixture of glue and alum

Research about the materials used for traditional drawing is considered a necessary endeavor. When we think about traditional drawing materials, we seemingly recognize the paper, writing brushes, ink-sticks and several colors in simple terms. And we use them without even so much as a second thought. This manuscript judged that the artworks with GyoBanSuJi show a very unique Korean style of painting within traditional drawings, and so endeavored to find out ways to utilize this technique. Firstly, we examined the manufacturing processes of GyoBanSuJi through records study and experimentation. Secondly, we examined the expressive properties of the artwork on GyoBanSuJi. Finally, we suggested ways to apply this method for traditional drawing classes. Eventually, this research is considered as one method that provides us the educational result of traditional cultural understanding, the 7th educational processes demand.
