This study attempts to explore the characteristics and types of play and the playfulness in art, and develop diverse play lessons in elementary art education. In doing so, this study provides the basis for using play in art classroom more positively. Art education through play has many objectives as followed. First, it can expand and develop students perception and expressive skill. Second, it helps students enhance the language expression in using art concepts. Third, it develops higher thinking skill through understanding the artworks and art concepts. Fourth, through play, students can have persistant interest of learning and actively participate in class. Finally, we can expect social and emotional growth in play activities through cooperation with others. Futhermore, the most important values of play is students fun and spontaneity to relate to learning. For this purpose, the art teacher needs the ability to develop the play lesson which connects play and learning.
