Today s attempt to recover the vitality of our national culture is being undertaken even more intensively than any other times, post-colonial period since 1945. There have greater diversified in-depth studies made. To establish the direction and carry out a study on tradition, priority is to be placed on establishing a correct viewpoint, followed by developmental efforts, such as inheritance, supplementation and creative transfiguration of tradition, and then to form a new, unique culture by comparison with other cultures. Regarding the value of traditional fine art, i.e. genre of visual arts, education on the value of such arts, the nation s unique philosophy and esthetics in paintings, sculptures, handcrafts, architecture, dresses and their ornaments should be emphasized. Such a study of cultural heritages and educational activities allow for it to be possible for modernism to intertwine with traditions whilst acknowledging the temporal value of the nation s precious cultural resources. This study attempts study as part of the education on traditional fine arts, the subject of teaching children the portrayal of expression in human figures, letting them understand what figure painting stands for, the identifiable category and make comparisons between Korean, Chinese and Japanese figure paintings. The human portrayal has been the focus of attention in all human societies. Visual artwork portraying one s self or other people is a superb process of calmly examining humans and developing one s power of observation. There have been no sufficient attempts made, despite the need, in the area of fine arts education.
