단양 수양개 유적에서 좀돌날문화의 출현

Emergence of Microblade Culture in Suyanggae paleolithic site

우리나라 후기 구석기시대는 돌날과 좀돌날의 출현시기를 기준으로 후기 구석기시대 이른 시기와 늦은 시기로 구분되며, 그 경계는 대략 25,000년을 전후한 시기로 알려져 있다. 최근 조사된 수양개 6지구에서는 42,000∼22,000년 전에 해당되는 후기 구석기시대 이른 시기부터 늦은 시기에 걸친 4개 문화층이 조사되었으며, 이를 통해 석기제작기술의 변화양상을 파악할 수 있는 자료가 확보되었다. 이중 6지구의 3문화층과 4문화층은 앞서 조사된 수양개 3지구의 1∼3문화층과 함께 후기 구석기시대 이른 시기에 해당된다. 이들 문화층은 돌날문화를 기반으로 하는 문화층으로 전문화된 돌날제작기술과 이를 이용한 슴베찌르개의 제작이 이루어졌는데, 특히 6지구 3문화층에서는 ‘돌자’를 포함하는 줄새김돌과 얼굴돌 등 새로운 문화유형과 함께 좀돌날몸돌, 좀돌날 등이 출토되어 주목된다. 6지구 3문화층에서 출토된 좀돌날몸돌은 몸체 조정이 이루어진 쐐기형이 아니라 몸체에 손질을 가하지 않고 원래 모양을 그대로 활용하여 좀돌날을 떼어내는 단순한 양상을 보인다. 또 3지구 2문화층과 3문화층에서 출토된 좀돌날몸돌은 양면떼기를 통한 몸체의 조정이 일부 진행되기는 하였으나, 작업면은 별도의 준비작업이 진행되지 않고 한 두차례 좀돌날을 떼어낸 후 폐기되었다. 이와 같은 양상은 후기 구석기시대 늦은 시기에 해당되는 6지구 2문화층 또는 1지구에서 출토된 정형화된 좀돌날몸돌과는 차이를 보이는 것으로 좀돌날 생산의 초기의 모습을 보여준다.

The upper paleolithic in our country is divided into the early period of upper paleolithic and later period of upper paleolithic based on the appearance of the blade and the microblade and its boundary is known as the period around 25ka. In Suyanggae Loc. 6, which was investigated recently, 4 cultural layers from early period of upper paleolithic to later period of upper paleolithic, corresponded to 42~ 22ka were investigated, through which the data to be able to identify the aspect of change in the stone tool making technique were secured. Among them, the CL 3 and 4 are corresponded to the early period of upper paleolithic together with the CL 1 to 3 of Suyanggae Loc. 3. These cultural layers are the blade culture-based cultural layers and the blade making technique and the tanged point using that were made. Particularly, in the CL 3 of Loc. 6, it attracts the attention as the microblade cores, microblades, etc. were unearthed together with new type of culture such as stone engraved with lines including ‘Suyanggae stone ruler’ and ‘Face-engrave sculpture’, etc. The microblade cores unearthed in the CL 3 of Loc. 6 are not wedge type, which the core was adjusted, but show the simple aspect that the microblade was taken off utilizing original shape as is without repairing the core. For the microblade cores unearthed in the CL 2 and 3 of Loc. 3, the core was adjusted partly but no separate preparation work in the working face was made and was disposed after taking off microblade once or twice. These are the aspect showing difference from the standardized microblade core enearthed in the CL 2 of Loc. 6 and Loc. 1, which are corresponded to the later period of upper paleolithic. As such, the artifacts to the microblade making unearthed in the CL 3 of Loc 6 and Loc. 3 can be considered that they are showing the early period of microblade making.
