교양과목으로서의 기독교개론 과목 운영의 의의와 실천

Significance and Practice of Managing <Understanding of Christianity> as Liberal Arts

기독교개론 과목은 대부분의 기독교대학에서 교양필수과목으로 지정하여 운영하는 과목이다. 종교과목이라는 것에 대한 부정적인 인식에도 불구하고 기독교개론 과목은 대학의 교양과목이라는 테두리 안에서 잘 운영만 된다면 학교의 정체성을 지키는 효과적인 수단이 될 수 있다. 나아가 이 과목은 서양의 문화와 사상적 뿌리가 되는 기독교에 대한 개괄적 이해를 통하여 학생들의 일반적 교양을 함양시킬 뿐 아니라, 모든종교가 다루는 초월적 분야에 대한 사고를 통하여 학생들의 정신적, 영적 수양을 도모할 수도 있다. 본 논문은 ‘신념 있는 시민교양’을 위한 기독교개론 과목의 의의를 살펴보고, 그 실제적 운영의 예를 토대로 교과목의 특성과 운영에 있어서의 실제적 어려움 들을 고찰한 후, 보다 효과적인 과목 운영을 위한 개선방안을 제시하는 것을 그 목표로 삼는다.

The subject, <Understanding of Christianity> is a required course in most Christian universities. Despite negative criticism about the religious subject, <Understanding of Christianity> can be effective in promoting a positive school identity, especially if this subject is well-operated within the frame of a Liberal Arts education. This course not only cultivates the students’ general culture through a general understanding of Christianity, which has been the cultural and ideological root in the West, but also promotes the mental and spiritual disciplines of students through the teachings of a transcendental field, which all religion deals with. The goal of this paper is to examine the meaning of the subject, <Understanding of Christianity> for the convicted civility and to suggest an improvement plan for a more effective management of the subject, while considering the practical difficulties in the subject’s character and the subject’s operation based on some instances of it’s actual performance.
