Factors Related to the Quality of Life among Middle Aged Women in Rural Area

The purpose of the study was to investigate the factors influencing quality of life(QOL) among middle aged women in rural Korea. The subjects were 178 women aged 40-64 from 12 myun area in Naju-shi. Data collection was conducted using 5questionnaires. There were statistically significant differences in the QOL by age, education level, economic level, chronic illness, and depression. Health perception and education showed statistically significant positive relationship with quality of life while depression and chronic illness, age showed statistically significant negative relationship. Health perception had the highest correlation with QOL among the five variables. A regression analysis was performed to identify the factors influencing the QOL. Health perception and depression score accounted for 57.7% of the variability of the QOL and health perception was found to be the most important factor. We also proposed a path model that shows the factors and the paths explaining the QOL based on the findings from the data. In conclusion, health perception, depression, chronic illness, age and education level were related with quality of life among middle aged women in rural Korea.
