The purpose of this study was to investigate the reality of agricultural literacy education (general agricultural education) in all levels of formal institutes and to identify strategies for fostering general education in higher education institutes. To achieve the purpose of this study, identifying the meaning and the importance of the agricultural literacy, analyzing the general agricultural education related curriculum in 4-year colleges, and presenting the strategies for fostering general education in higher education institutes. The conclusions of this study were as follows: 1) General agricultural courses must be required in the teacher education institutes so that future teachers should not be able to make any mistake on agriculture related subject when they would teach in school. 2) General agricultural education should be executed continuously and repeatedly in every school level so that there would be no gab though G1 to post-secondary education. 3) Policies for agricultural education should be changed like setting up the minimum required agricultural education hours. 4) Agricultural education should be performed through integrated subject such as Korean, Korean Literature, English, English Literature, Science, Social Science, and so on.
