원예 활동이 정신지체아동의 부적응 행동에 미치는 영향

The Effect of Horticultural Therapy on the Maladjusted Behavior of Children with Mental Retardation

This study used horticultural therapy to decrease maladjusted behavior of children with MR and maintain their effective learning environment and smooth group life, and examined its effectiveness. Of elementary schoolers in Gwangju, this study selected give children with MR. Measurement method of maladjusted behavior used for pretest and posttest was K-ABS which Kim Seung-guk translated AAMR Adaptive Behavior Scale-School Editin, ABS-SE in 1990. In this test, maladjusted behavior of social sphere was selected and maladjusted behavior which often happens in school was limited to three spheres(attack behavior, dispirited behavior, and hyperkinetic behavior level). Teacher s observation was used to collect subject s information. This program was conducted twice every week(24 times). Activities used for the program included flower packing, vegetable seedling planting, hydroponic culture, foliage plant growing, press flower making, self-tree care, etc. It combined decoration and growing appropriately not to lose participants interest. And program participation was enhanced by using desire to achieve to the utmost. To find the changes of maladjusted behavior of children with MR, maladjusted behavior evaluation sphere score was suggested as a table. Sphere number was the total score of observation table, considering children s maximum performance and behavior changes of pretest and posttest was examined. For each child who took part in horticultural therapy program, their activity process was recorded to make an evaluation table, children s changes were accumulated by example, and the process and results of the activity were analyzed and specified. The results of this study are as follows: First, horticultural therapy may decrease the attack behavior of children with MR. Secondly, horticultural therapy may decrease the dispirited behavior of children with MR. Finally, horticultural therapy decrease the hyperkinetic behavior of children with MR.
