Cooperation among Agricultural High Schools and Extension Institutes for Upbringing Agricultural Manpower in Korea

The purposes of the study were to review the policies for upbringing agricultural manpower, to examine the current status and tasks of agricultural high school education and agricultural extension services in Korea, and to explore the possible cooperative efforts among agricultural education and extension for more effective approaches to upbringing the manpower for agricultural and rural development in Korea. Examination of the current status of agricultural high schools and extension institutions revealed the serious budget and manpower cut in recent years, and lack of recognition from the public as well as central government. The following recommendations were offered to strengthen the cooperation and linkages among agricultural high schools and extension for upbringing the manpower for agricultural and rural development: It is crucial that the current status be improved, because of the critical importance of agricultural high schools and extension in diffusing innovations to agricultural manpower in order to ensure quality and steady food supply. Further research activities on agricultural education and extension should be encouraged for more effective institutional cooperation system in Korea to achieve a greater rural and national development. Restoring the morale of extension educators and agricultural teachers be implemented to continually achieve the national goals of food production, balanced national development and preservation of environment, at the same time to meet increasing needs of rural manpower. National support activities should be emphasized and encouraged to improve the cooperation and collaboration among agricultural schools and extension organizations to better upbringing the future farmers educational and information needs.
