Determining Criteria for Evaluating the Instruction in Junior Colleges

The purpose of this study was to determine criteria for evaluating the instruction in junior colleges and differential criteria by its major fields and the characteristics of instruction. The population in this study was all professors of junior colleges in Korea. A survey instrument was developed by researcher based on review of literature and a panel of expert. The data was analyzed through Windows SPSS 10.0 statistics packages using descriptive statistics(frequencies, percentage, means, standard deviations), one-way ANOVA and LSD post hoc multiple comparisons. The major results in this study were as follows. First, the criteria for evaluating the instruction in junior colleges were determined. The criteria were goal precision, accuracy of illustration, suitability of method․material, suitability of environment․time, work orientation: connection of theory and practice, novelty, communication, participation, equity, acceptability, feedback, motivation, enthusiasm, efficiency, satisfaction, goal attainment and feasibility. These 17 criteria . were categorized into 6 group. The group were clarity, suitability, work orientation, attractivity and effectiveness. Second, criteria for evaluating the instruction by its major fields were the same as the general criteria. However, some criteria were shown the difference by major fields. Especially, the significantly different criteria by major fields were accuracy of illustration, suitability of method․material, connection of theory and practice, acceptability and enthusiasm. Third, criteria for evaluating the instruction by its major fields were the same as the general criteria. However, some criteria were shown the difference by the nature of instruction. The significantly different criteria by the nature of instruction were suitability of method․material, connection of theory and practice, acceptability and feedback. The significantly different criteria by grades were suitability of environment․time and efficiency. The significantly different criteria by class size were accuracy of illustration, suitability of environment․time, novelty and acceptability.
