Exploring the Promotion and Management Models for Rural Small Schools in Korea

The purpose of this study was to explore the promotion and management models for rural small schools in Korea. For the purpose, the researcher carried out a review of extensive literature as well as asked advises from a panel of experts, and suggested strategies for effectively promoting and managing rural small schools. As a result, this study suggested three promotion models such as ① the self-regulated school, ② the integrated school among elementary, middle and high schools, and ③ the partnership school among large scale schools and small scale schools. For the managing strategies, this study included ① the five school days a week, ② the mixed aged classroom, and ③ the distance education for small school education. Additionally, this study recommended some strategies and measures for both the development and future research of rural small school.
