The population of this study is 85,959 students of 106 high schools located in Chungcheongnam-do as of April 1st, 2001 and 2 third-year classes from 20 schools were selected through Stratified Multistage Random Sampling. Participants are 1,353 students which consist of 40 students from each class. The conclusions of this study are as follows. First, female students have higher career decision levels than male students and in terms of high school types, academic high school students have the highest career decision level and agricultural high school, technical high school and commercial high school follow in order. The career decision levels show significant difference depending on gender and high school types. Second, paternal academic background, maternal academic background, paternal occupational dignity and family s monthly income affect high school students career decision levels. paternal occupational dignity and family s monthly income are more influential than parental academic background and It was shown that if their parents have higher than some level of academic background and economic condition, significant difference is not found.
