유전자 변형 작물 및 식품의 도입에 관한 농업계 고등학생의 반응

Responses to Introduction of Genetically-Modified Crops and Food by Agricultural High School Students

This study was conducted to investigate the responses of the students to potential introduction and acceptance of using genetically-modified(GM) crops and food. Agricultural students (1,152) at 15 agricultural high schools in Korea were surveyed by questionnaire investigation. Results were compiled and statistically analyzed by SPSS. The main findings from the questionnaire investigation were as follows: 1) the students have comparatively low degree of recognition about self-supply rate of crops of our country and, on the other hand, the seriousness of importation dependence upon other countries, and most of them haven t as yet considered the intake of GM food. Therefore, an agricultural high school as well as an academic high school needs to let them know what s happening with regard to the problem like GMO which is under hot issue in our society and provide them with the clear information through the chance of education. 2) with relation to the practice of GMO inscription system, the students showed the affirmative response that they are for that system and, in addition, they expressed high degree of curiosity about purchasing GMO inscription products at least once. Many students raised the security problem as the dangerous element with respect to food, health and ecology world. Therefore, we need to find out the guiding principles to upgrade the reliability of GM crops and food. 3) the students thought that the influence of GMO would have an effect on the destruction of ecology world and the stability of food. Therefore, we need to broaden the width of understanding about GMO through the dual practice of classes for experiments as well as for the theory of life engineering. 4) the students thought that GMO is more secure than cigarette or alcohol. There are many students who positively expressed the objection views by using the Internet on the computer. Moreover, it is analyzed that they have a tendency of choosing broadcasting media such as TV to get information of GMO. Therefore, it is required that there should be some acknowledge counterparts by which public media are utilized at maximum in order to provide information with respect to the stability of GMO.
