Classification of Agricultural Areas for Supernumerary Specia Selection of Agricultural High School Graduates

The Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD) announced a policy in November 2001 to boost vocational education including supernumerary special selection of vocational high school students for colleges admissions. According to the policy, the vocational high school students can submit their application forms to the similar major areas in colleges. The MEHRD revised the acts related to the policy in May 2002 and gave authority to colleges to set the boundary of the similar major areas in August 2002. For this, this study carried out in order to establish the plans for classifying the similar major areas and for setting the boundary of the similar major areas in Agriculture which would be used for selecting of the students through supernumerary special selection in colleges. To accomplish this study, literature review and survey methods were used for this study. We reviewed literature on systematics and scope of the similar major areas in Agriculture. Also, we sent a survey questionnaires to agricultural vocational high schools, junior colleges, universities to investigate their opinions on the classification methodology, scope of the major areas in Agriculture. This study presented several plans for classifying the similar major areas and for setting the boundary of the similar major areas in Agriculture as follows: (1) to classifying all area in Vocational High School into a single similar major area, (2) to classifying all area in Agriculture into a single similar major area, (3) to dividing all area in Agriculture into several divisions, and (4) to classifying similar major areas into several divisions by virtue of a new classification system differ in present. Based on the results of this study, we suggested further considerations and recommendations in classifying the similar major areas, in setting the boundary of the similar major areas in Agriculture, and in operating the plans in junior colleges and universities on the last part of the study.
