미술 요소 관점에서 그림책 분석: Caldecott 수상도서를 중심으로

Analysis of picture books from the perspective of art elements: Focusing on Caldecott award-winning books

본 연구는 예술성이 높은 그림책으로 인정받은 Caldecott 수상도서를 미술 요소 관점에서 분석하는 데 목적이 있다. 이러한 연구목적을 수행하기 위하여 171편의 Caldecott 수상도서를 미술 요소 중 색, 선, 공간, 질감 측면에서 분석하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 미술 요소 중 색은 4색 이상의 다양한 유채색을 사용한 그림책의 비중이 제일 높았고, 이어1~3색만 절제해서 사용한 그림책, 무채색 그림책, 유채색과 무채색이 혼합된 그림책 순으로 나타났다. 둘째, 미술 요소 중 선은 단정한 선, 자유로운 선, 선 없이 표현한 그림책 순으로 나타났지만 단정한 선과 자유로운 선 표현의 빈도가 큰 차이는 없었다. 셋째, 미술 요소 중 공간은 원근법과 사실적 표현을 사용한 3차원 입체 그림책이 제일 많았으며, 2차원 평면으로 그린 그림책, 평면과 입체를 섞어 표현한 그림책 순으로 나타났다. 넷째, 미술 요소 중질감은 물감을 사용한 그림책이 제일 많았으며, 콜라주 질감, 연필·색연필 등의 그리기 도구를 사용한 질감, 판화, 디자인·사진 질감 순으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 그림책에서 미술 요소를 알아봄으로써 현장 교사들의 그림감상에 관한 이해를 돕고, 미적 탐색을 시작할 때 의미 있는 상호작용의 출발이 될 수 있는 미술 요소에 관한 정보를 제공했다는 데 연구의 의의가 있다.

The purpose of this study is to analyze Caldecott s award-winning books, which are recognized as highly artistic picture book from the viewpoint of art elements. In order to carry out this research purpose, 171 Caldecott award books were analyzed in terms of color, line, space, and texture among art elements. First, among art elements, the proportion of picture books using various chromatic colors of 4 or more colors was the highest, followed by picture books using only 1∼3 colors, achromatic picture books, and picture books mixed with chromatic and achromatic colors. Second, among art elements, lines appeared in the order of neat lines,free lines, and picture books expressed without lines, but there was no significant difference in the frequency of expression of neat lines and free lines. Third, as for the space among art elements, three-dimensional three-dimensional picture books using perspective and realistic expressions were the most common, followed by picture books drawn in a two-dimensional plane, and picture books expressed by mixing plane and three-dimensional. Fourth, as for the texture, picture books using paints were the most common among art elements, followed by collage texture, texture using drawing tools such as pencils and colored pencils, printmaking, design and photo texture. This study is meaningful in that it helps field teachers to understand art elements in picture books and provides information on art elements that can be the start of meaningful interaction when starting an aesthetic search.
