체육전담교사, 스포츠강사, 담임교사의 공존에 관한 내러티브 연구

A Narrative Study on the Co-existence of Physical Education Specialist Teacher, Sports Instructor and Classroom Teacher in an Elementary School

본 내러티브 연구는 한 학교 지붕 아래 체육을 가르치고 있는 세 교수 주체의 공존에 관한 내러티브 연구이다. 연구참여자는 같은 초등학교에 재직하며 교육과정 체육수업 시수를 나누어 지도하고 있는 체육전담교사, 스포츠강사, 담임교사 각 1명을 선정하였으며 심층면담에 의존하여 자료수집을 하였다. 수집된 자료는 Connelly & Clandinin(2000)의 내러티브 분석 절차에 따라 귀납적으로 분석되었으며 분석 결과는 연구참여자별로 제시되었다. 자료분석 결과, 수업의 질 제고와는 무관한 이유로 체육수업 시수를 분할하여 지도하는 공존이 시작되었으며, 이에 따른 각 주체의 체육수업 실천 양상은 담임교사는 ‘타협’, 체육전담교사는 ‘반쪽짜리 교사’, 스포츠강사는 ‘주변인’으로 범주화되었다. 체육전담교사 및 스포츠강사 정책의 재맥락화로 인한 공존 현상은 정책의 왜곡된 수용이라는 점과 교수자의 수업전문성 신장을 위한 동기 상실이라는 점에서 위협이 되고 있으며, 동시에 공존의 지속성에 대한 전망 속에 초등교사가 체육수업 교수 기회를 꾸준히 가진다는 가능성을 비추고 있었다. 끝으로 ‘체육수업의 질 제고’라는 본연의 정책 의도에 집중할 수 있는 교과 협의체 구축과 연수 프로그램의 개선을 제안하였다.

This study is a narrative study on the coexistence of three main bodies of physical education (PE) in a elementary school. The research participants were three - a PE teacher, a sports instructor, and a classroom teacher. The mainstream PE classes had been managed and fulfilled by them respectively or together. The data had been collected based on the in-depth interview. The collected data were analysed inductively referring to the narrative analysis procedure of Connelly & Clandinin (2000), and the analysis results were presented for each participants individually. As a result of the study, it was found that the coexistence had been initiated by dividing the number of hours of PE classes for irrelevant reasons to the subject, and accordingly, their aspects of the teaching performances are categorised differently: classroom teacher as ‘compromising’, PE teacher as ‘incomplete teacher’, and sports instructor as ‘minor planetoid’. The coexistence of PE teachers and sport instructors due to the recontextualization of the policy for the two positions would be warned because accepting the policies would be distorted, and could demotivate teachers’ motivation for professional development. Moreover, the study showed that it would imply the possibility that all primary school teachers would be able to keep having opportunities to teach PE classes in the prospect of continuity of coexistence. Lastly, the study suggests some efforts such as forming a consultative system for the intrinsic policy intention, which is improving the quality of physical education classes , and reforming the in-service teacher training programmes.
