본 연구의 목적은 유아기 자녀를 둔 어머니의 종이그림책과 전자그림책에 대한 인식과 가정에서의활용실태의 차이를 살펴보는 것이다. 이를 위해 경상남도 C시의 유치원과 어린이집에 재원하고 있는 유아의어머니 202명을 연구대상으로 하여 조사한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 종이그림책과 전자그림책에 대한어머니의 인식은 그림책이 갖추어야 하는 기준, 책을 읽어주는 시기와 계기, 책의 효과 및 책을 읽어주는즐거움에 있어서 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 종이그림책과 전자그림책의 활용실태에 있어서도 책의구입방법, 구입시 영향을 미치는 요인, 책을 읽어주기 시작한 시기, 책 읽는 빈도, 책을 읽는 시간대, 한번읽는데 걸리는 시간, 읽는 장소, 함께 읽는 사람, 읽을 때의 상호작용 및 유아가 이해하지 못하는 경우의대처법에서 차이가 나타났다. 유아의 문해 환경으로서 종이그림책과 전자그림책의 가능성과 한계에 대해논의하였다.
The purpose of this study is to examine the differences in perceptions of paper and electronic picture books of mothers and their utilization at home. A survey was conducted with 202 mothers of young children in C city of the South Gyeongsam Province. The data from the survey was analyzed using SPSS 23.0 for Windows. The results of the study showed that mothers’ perceptions of paper and electronic picture books were very different. They tended to believe that paper picture books were more suited for children, but also that electronic picture books were more focused on the acquisition of knowledge, making them more suited for children above the age of 3, thereby suggesting a difference in perception of both the effectiveness and enjoyment of books for children. There were also differences in how, when, and why picture books were bought, as well as when and where the picture books were read and peer interaction in regards to reading picture books. The results of the study suggest that it is necessary to provide more information for mothers with young children in regards to picture books, and that it is important that more high-quality electronic picture books are produced institutionally. Since there is a difference in how mothers tend to use picture books based on whether they are paper or electronic, education on how to utilize them to benefit an young children s development is also significant. Given the importance of a parent’s role in the prevention of media addiction in young children, there is an additional need for concrete guidelines on how to let children interact with picture books.
