강원 영동지역의 이른바 大加耶人 徙民의 실상

Study on the Conditions of the Daegaya People of the Yeongdong Region

삼국시대에 특정 양식의 토기의 유통, 확산을 통해 경제권, 문화권 나아가 정치적 영역에 이르기까지 다양한논의가 진행되었다. 그러나 강원 영동지역에서 토기 제작기법의 전수 혹은 공방의 생산시스템 전파, 생산 토기의 유통, 영역의 확장 등 기왕의 접근으로는 해석이 불가능한 양상을 보이는 대가야양식 토기가 출토되었고, 이를 대가야인의 사민으로 상정해 왔다. 사민이라고 하는 해석 자체에 대해서는 크게 이견이 없으나 대가야양식 토기를 면밀히 관찰한 결과 그양상이 간단하지만은 않았다. 같은 대가야양식 토기의 범주에 속하지만 개배는 전형적인 대가야양식 토기로, 중심지인 고령지역에서 생산한 것이다. 반면, 대가야양식의 대부장경호에는 모두 동체 하위에 평행 혹은 격자 타날흔적을 지우지 않고 남기고 있음을 확인하였다. 소가야양식 토기 제작기법을 그대로 이용하고 있는것이다. 이러한 대부장경호는 주로 소가야의 권역, 혹은 토기 문화와 관련 있는 지역이었다가 이후 대가야의영향권으로 들어가는 지역에서 확인된다. 즉, 이 동체부 하위의 타날흔을 통해 대부장경호는 소가야양식 토기의 제작기법으로 대가야양식 토기를 모방생산한 것임을 확인하였다. 결국 두 기종의 생산지가 다르므로 대가야의 멸망에 따른 중심지의 사람이 사민된 것이라는 기존 견해에대한 수정의 필요성을 지적하였다. 사민의 양상을 정리하면 삼척·동해지역은 6세기 이후 실직주 설치를 통해 신라가 거의 직접지배를 통치하는 곳으로 대가야를 멸망시킨 이후 이 지역으로 대가야인을 사민시킨다. 이 사민된 대가야인은 대가야 중심지의 사람이 아니라 외곽의 소규모 지배집단의 사람으로 사민된 이후에도 현지의 지배자급과 비슷한 랭크를 유지하게 된다. 완전히 굴욕적으로 강제이주되는 모습보다 기존의 지위를 어느 정도 보장하면서 새로운지역으로 이동하게 되는 모습을 그릴 수 있었다. 이는 신라의 입장에서도 두 지역에 대한 지배력을 모두 높이는 효과로 이어진다.

Daegaya-style pottery was excavated in the Yeongdong region of Gangwon Province, which has been assumed as the result of the migration of Daegaya communities. There is no major disagreement over the interpretation of the immigrants themselves, but a close examination of the pottery reveals a complex picture. The flat cup with cover was produced in the style of Daegaya pottery from the central Goryeong area. On the other hand, the mounted jar was found to have been produced using a technique in which the parallel or checked paddled patterns on the lower part of the vessel had not been erased, which is a characteristic feature of Sogaya pottery production. Such examples of Daegaya mounted jars have been found in areas that were once part of Sogaya territory or were associated with Sogaya pottery culture that later fell under the influence of Daegaya. In other words, they were examples of Daegaya-style pottery being imitated using the manufacturing technique of Sogaya-style pottery. Daegaya migrants were settled in the areas of Samcheok and Donghae, which came under almost direct rule of Silla from the 6th century. However, these Daegaya migrants did not consist of the central elite of Daegaya who were completely humiliated in their new surroundings, but rather consisted of small ruling groups from the peripheral areas of Daegaya who were able to maintain a similar status even after moving to the Yeongdong region. This strategy allowed Silla to increase their control over both regions.
