The purpose of this study was to understand how e-cigarettes affect smoking and quitting smoking in university students by an in-depth understanding of the smoking university students experience of using e-cigarettes. The data collection period is from December 1, 2020, to April 1, 2021. Participants in the study were interviewed by convenience sampling and in-depth interviews of 17 university students. The data were subjected to content analysis proposed by Elo and Kyngas and frequency analysis and cross-analysis using IBM SPSS Statistics 26. As a result of this study, 14 (82.4%) of the participants showed that e-cigarettes did not help quit smoking and 13 (76.5%) of the participants did not have the will to quit smoking. The period of using only e-cigarettes was between 7 months and less than 1 year (χ2=6.93, p=0.031). In the group that only used e-cigarettes, 50% thought that e-cigarettes were effective in quitting smoking (χ2=6.67, p=0.010). In conclusion, using e-cigarettes increases the amount of smoking and weakens the will to quit. Therefore, education on the use of e-cigarettes is necessary.
