문화유산의 지속가능한 발전을 위한 가상고고학박물관(MAV)의 디지털 기술 활용 방안

A plan to utilize digital technology of the Museo Archeologico Virtuale(MAV) for the sustainable development of cultural heritage

정보통신기술(Information and Communication Technologies, ICT)은 우리 사회를 급속도로 디지털화시키고 있다. 학문, 산업 등 여러 분야에서 지속적으로 영향을 끼치고 있으며 문화유산 분야도 예외는 아니다. ICT를 기반으로 하는 지식 사회의 발전은 문화유산의 디지털화가 문화유산을 모두가 접근 가능하고 지속가능하게 할 것이다. 이러한 시대의 흐름에 발맞추어 박물관 역시 디지털 기술을 활용해 문화유산이 양방향으로 소통하며 사회적 가치를 창출할 수 있도록 노력해야 한다. 이와 같은 ICT 기술은 박물관의 전통적인 역할, 목표, 기능을 전환시켰다. 현대 박물관은 유물의 수집, 보관, 연구, 전시하는 전통적인 기능에 머물지 않는다. 현대사회에서 박물관의 기능과 역할은 단순하고 일방적으로 전시물을 관람하는 것에서 더 나아가 디지털 기술을 활용해 전시물을 체험하는 것으로 확장되었다. 따라서 관람객들이 직ㆍ간접적인 체험을 통해 전시물에 대해 충분히 이해하고 적극적으로 참여할 수 있도록 다양한 콘텐츠 개발이 필요하다. 본고에서는 문화유산을 활용한 이탈리아의 가상고고학박물관(Museo Archeologico Virtuale, MAV)의 디지털 콘텐츠화 사례를 분석해 보고, 이를 통해 문화유산의 디지털 콘텐츠화를 통해 얻을 수 있는 장점을 파악하고자 한다. MAV는 다양한 문화유산의 지속가능한 전승 방안과 사회적 가치를 추구하여 문화유산의 가치를 창출할 수 있는 사례를 보여주는 예라 할 수 있다. 이러한 사례를 분석해 사회적 가치의 시대로 접어들고 있는 현 시점에서 박물관이 기여할 수 있는 바를 제고해 국내 실정에 부합하는 발전 대안을 찾는 데 참고할 수 있을 것이다. 본 연구를 통해 박물관과 그와 관련한 문화유산의 다양한 활용이 지속가능할 때 박물관의 사회적 가치 추구와 사회참여의 의미를 새롭게 발견하고 이해할 수 있는 기회를 갖고자 한다.

Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are rapidly digitizing our society. It continues to influence in many fields, including academics and industry, and cultural heritage is no exception. The development of a knowledge society based on ICT will make digitization of cultural heritage accessible and sustainable for all. To keep pace with these times, museums should also use digital technologies to ensure cultural heritage communicates in both directions and create social values. This ICT technology transformed the museum’s traditional roles, goals and functions. Modern museums do not rely on the traditional function of collecting, storing, studying, or exhibiting relics. The function and role of museums in modern society has been extended from simply and unilaterally to exhibits, using digital technology to experience exhibits. Therefore, it is necessary to develop various contents so that visitors can fully understand and actively participate in the exhibits through direct and indirect experiences. In this paper, we will analyze the digital contents of the Italian Archeological Museum (Museo Archeologico Virtuale, MAV), which utilizes cultural heritage. MAV is an example of how to create the value of cultural heritage by pursuing sustainable transmission methods and social values of various cultural heritage. By analyzing these cases, the museum will be able to enhance what it can contribute to at this time as it enters an era of social value and refer it to finding development alternatives suitable for the domestic situation. Through this study, I would like to have an opportunity to discover and understand the meaning of the museum’ s pursuit of social values and social participation when various uses of museums and related cultural heritage are sustainable.
