퇴계 한시작품 저작연보 작성과 작품이해의 문제

Problems in Writing the Chronological List of Twegae s Chinese Poetry and in Understanding His Poems

『退溪集』詩卷, 그중에서도 퇴계 자신의 『詩藁』를 대본으로 한 내집 권1-4 시권의 수록작품을 그 편차를 따라 순서대로 읽어보면, 작품이 저작된 그해 그때 그 장소에서의 퇴계의 모습이 아닌 시간과 장소를 달리한 노년의 대학자 퇴계의 모습, ‘年代’를 기준으로 작성한 퇴계 한시작품 저작연보를 무색하게 할 만큼 노년의 대학자 퇴계의 모습이 또렷하게 부각된다. 이에 초점을 맞추어 본고에서는 ｢過吉先生閭｣와 ｢白巖東軒濯纓金公韻｣, ｢早春閒居次趙士敬具景瑞金舜擧權景受相唱酬韻十四首｣ 제12수와 그 원고 2종, ｢陶山雜詠[幷記]｣를 중심으로 ‘연대’를 기준으로 한 한시작품 저작연보의 작성과 그에 따른 문제, 그리고 목판본 퇴계집 각 시권 등에 수록된 퇴계 한시작품의 이해 문제에 대해서 살펴보았다. 그 결과 퇴계 자신의 시고를 대본으로 하였던, 다시 말하면 퇴계 자신이 후일 문집에 수록할 것을 염두에 두고 일생 동안 수정을 가한 자신의 시고를 대본으로 한 목판본 퇴계집 내집 시권 권1-4에 수록된 작품들은 일률적으로 ‘연대’라는 하나의 기준으로 통합해서 정리하는 것이 어렵다는 사실을 확인해볼 수 있었다. 퇴계집만이 그런 것이 아니라, 퇴계집처럼 수록한 작품의 저작편차가 정연한 문집은 대부분 그럴 것이다. 특히 전통시대 문집을 편찬할 때, 傳後文字로써 문집에 수록하는 작품은, 만약 초년과 만년이 그 내용이나 주지가 달라졌을 경우에는 초년의 것을 버리고 만년의 것을 정론으로 취하는 것이 일반적이었다는 사실을 고려한다면, 현대 연구자들이 생각하는 것처럼 전통시대 문집에서 ‘연대’ 하나를 기준으로 작품을 정리해서 보는 것이 얼마나 위험한지 한번 깊이 생각해볼 필요가 있을 것이다.

If we read the poems of Twegae one by one in the chronological order contained in Poetry Volumes 1-4 compiled based on his Sigo (詩藁), in the Twegaejip [Collection of Writings of Twegae], we can get the clear image of old scholar Twegae rather than his various images when he wrote each of different Chinese poems in different times and places. Focusing on this point, this study examined the problems of compiling Chinese poems chronologically, and of understanding Twegae s works in each Poetry Volume of wood-block printed Twegaejip, focusing on 12 poems of Gwagilseonsengryeo (過吉先生閭) , Baekamdonghwontakyeongkimgongmun (白巖東軒濯纓金公韻) , and Jochunhangeochajosagyeonggu Geongseo Kimsumgeo Gwongyeongsusangchangsuwoon Sipsasu (早春閒居次趙士敬具景瑞金舜擧權景受相唱酬韻十四首) and two kinds of manuscripts, and Dosanjapyeong Byeonggi (陶山雜詠 幷記) . The analysis proved that it is difficult to compile Twegae s poems in the Poetry Volumes 1-4 in the wood-block printed Twegaejip with the single criterion of chronicle , because those poems had been continuously revised by Twegae himself through his life, assuming that they would be contained in his posthumous collection of his works. It is not the only problem of Twegaejip. Probably, most of collections of literary works which were arranged with clear chronological orders must have such problems. Considering that, in the old days, when the compiler arranged a scholar s life-long works, if a specific literary work originally written in the scholar s younger age was revised in his later life, the compiler would choose the latter one, it is very dangerous to arrange someone s life-long works only in the chronological order.
