동오 안승구선생은 혁신 유림으로 평생을 헌신하셨을 뿐 아니라 나라의 국운이 위기에 빠져 있을 때 유교의 애국적 의리의 희생정신으로 자신의 한 몸을 희생하였다. 그러나 나라얼연구소가 2020년 학술토론을 하기 전에는 그 분의 행적이 알려지지 않았을 뿐만 아니라 오히려 학문적으로 일천한 학자들에 의해 때로는 오해와 왜곡된 평가를 받았다. 본 글은 동오 안승구에 관한 미발견 자료들을 수합하여 그의 일생을 차례로 정리하였다. 1. 그는 유교정신의 교육을 부모로부터 받은 유학자이며 2. 고향인 황해도 연백에서 국채보상운동기금을 마련하였으며 3. 서간도 독립기지를 마련하기 위해 몇 번의 義盜를 행하여 사형선교를 받고 3년을 서대문형무소에서 수감생활을 한 독립운동가였다. 4. 출옥후 애국사상에 바탕을 둔 충남홍성의 <유교부식회> 주최 전조선 유림대회 부의장을 맡아 유교의 새로운 길을 제시하는 삶을 살다가 40대 전반의 짧은 나이로 세상을 떠난 의인이었다. 이번 학술적 논의를 바탕으로 동오 안승구선생의 애국사상과 꺼져가는 유교정신의 부광復光을 꿈꾼 자임을 널리 알리는 계기가 되어야 한다.
Dongo Ahn Seung-Gu devoted his life to studying innovative Confucianism and sacrificed his body by practicing Confucian patriotic loyalty when the country faced a crisis. However, his achievements remained unknown until the Naraeol Institute held the 2020 academic seminar. On the contrary, Ahn was sometimes misunderstood and distorted by scholars with a lack of knowledge. This paper gathered undiscovered data related to Dongo Ahn Seung-Gu and summarized his lifetime. 1. Ahn Seung-Gu was a Confucian scholar educated by his parents. 2. He raised a national debt redemption movement fund in his hometown called Yeonbaek, Hwanghae-do. 3. As an independence activist, he performed several thefts out of good will to build the independence base in Seogando, was sentenced to death, and spent three years at the Seodaemun Prison. 4. After getting released from prison, he became the vice-chair of the Joseon Confucian Literati Rally hosted by the Confucian Association in Hongseong, Chungcheongnam-do, based on patriotism. Ahn deceased at a young age of early 40s after presenting new paths to be headed by Confucianism. The academic seminar this time should be an opportunity to widespread Dongo Ahn Seung-Gu as a Confucian scholar who practiced patriotism and dreamed of the revival of Confucianism.
