생물 관련 야외체험활동을 통한 대학생의 경험 탐색

Exploration of College Students’ Experiences through Biology-related Outdoor Activities:Focused on the Academic Interests and Career Choice

본 연구는 야외체험활동의 경험이 대학생들의 학업적 흥미 및 진로선택에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 살펴보았다. 연구대상은 광역시 소재 생물학과에 재학하는 총 13명의 학생으로 야외체험활동에 1년 동안 참여하였다. 심층면담과 수기형식의 설문지를 활용하여 질적자료를 수집하였다. 질적자료는 면담 자료, 수집된 수기형식의 설문지의 답변의 공통된 범주를 추출하는 반복적 비교분석법을 통해 분석되었다. 연구결과, 야외체험활동을 통하여 생물학에 대한 학업적 흥미가 유발된 그룹, 생물학에 대한 학업적 흥미가 높게 유발됨과 동시에 나아가 진로를 선택하는데 영향을 받은 그룹, 생물학에 대한 학업적 흥미가 유발되지 못한 그룹으로 나누어졌다. 학업적 흥미가 유발된 그룹의 학생들은 ‘직접 체험’, ‘새로운 경험’의 상황적 흥미 범주와 함께, ‘지식의 습득’, ‘생물학에 대한 흥미’의 개인적 흥미 범주를 언급하여 생물학에 대해 비교적 지속적으로 유지되는 관심과 선호도를 나타냈다. 또한, 야외체험활동은 대학생들의 생물학과 관련된 진로선택에도 직·간접적 영향을 끼치는 것으로 나타났다.

This study explored the effect of outdoor activities on academic interests and career choice of college students majoring in biology. The outdoor activities consisted of three times of outdoor collection of various plants and animals during spring, summer, and autumn, and exhibition. This study used a qualitative methodology with questionnaires and in-depth interviews. As results, the participants were divided into three groups; a group whose academic interest in biology greatly aroused: a group that arose academic interest in biology with further choice of career: a group that did not generate any academic interest. The students who arose academic interests mentioned that they could see, hear, and learn about life-related things in person; had a chance of acquiring biological knowledge; and further became consider a future career in biology area. However, some students mentioned that outdoor activities did not arouse any academic interest in biology. Instead, they generated their interest in forming social and community relationships.
