Effect of Rural Transportation System on Agricultural Development in Rural Jamaica

농촌 교통시스템은 자메이카의 농업분야와 농촌지역의 개발에 핵심적인 요소로 간주되고 있다. 이는 농촌지역민들의 생활을 향상시키고, 도시 및 농촌 지역민들 모두에게 상품과 서비스에 대한 접근성을 크게 증대시키고, 전반적인 경제를 강화시킨다. 본 연구에서는 교통 정책, 계획 및 접근성이 자메이카의 농업개발에 어떤 역할을 하는지에 대해 심층적으로 분석하였다. 연구 결과 교통시스템의 개선은 농민들이 농작물 생산량의 증대와 다각화, 농작물에 대한 부가가치 증대, 농산물의 부패, 폐기 및 손실의 감소를 위해 노력하도록 한다는 사실을 발견하였다. 표본자료를 바탕으로 상관관계 분석을 한 결과, 이들 변수들 사이에 통계적으로 유의한 정의 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 이는 교통시스템의 개선이 농업분야와 나아가 전반적인 경제 강화를 위해 우선적으로 고려되어야 함을 시사한다. 본 연구에서는 또한 농촌지역 교통시스템의 개선을 통해 구현된 개발 성공사례들을 분석하고, 교통시스템 개선에 따른 문제들을 극복하기 위한 전략들을 제안한다.

Rural transportation is regarded as the pinnacle of development in the agriculture sector and the rural areas of Jamaica. It enhances the livelihood of rural citizens, broadens the horizon of agriculture production, creates greater access to goods and services to both urban and rural residents, and helps in boosting the general economy. This paper critically examines the role of transportation policies, planning and access on the agriculture development of Jamaica. The study revealed that improvements in the transportation system will encourage farmers to increase and diversify their level of production, add value to their agriculture produce, reduce spoilage, waste and damage to produce. The positive correlation between the independent variables and the dependent variable suggested that the transportation systems need urgent attention in strengthening the agriculture sector and the economy at large. Successful cases of development generated through improvement in rural transportation system were examined in this study. The research proposed strategies in overcoming the challenges of the transportation system.
