The European model of the sporting institution primarily focuses on the principles of: a) The social importance of sport in Europe, and b) the principle that before taking any decision relating to sporting bodies or federations the European Institutions should first give them a hearing. The principles are summarized in the phrase “democracy and solidarity”. According to European Commission, sport has five functions: a) The educational function, b) The public health function, c) The social function, d) the cultural function, e) the entertainment function. Sports function as a lever for integrating individuals who have been excluded from the labour market. The organization of sport within the European Union is based on a federal system, which is structured around accredited federations, which govern sport at national and international level.
