질적연구 수행에서 디지털 도구 활용방안 탐색

Exploring the Application of Digital Tools in Conducting Qualitative Research

국내 교육분야 연구동향을 분석한 연구물을 살펴보면 교육현상을 탐구함에 있어 질적연구의 활용이 확대되고 있음을 확인할 수 있다. 질적연구의 활용이 확대되는 상황에서 실제적인 질적연구 수행방법에 대한 교육 연구자들의 관심이 높아지고 있다. 다양한 디지털 도구의 활용은 질적연구자의 연구수행을 지원하는 효율적･효과적 전략으로 부각 받고 있다. 다수의 국외 연구들은 질적연구 수행 전반에서 디지털 도구의 활용을 제안하고 있다. 반면 국내 질적연구 현장은 디지털 도구 활용에 대한 논의와 준비가 부족한 상황이다. 본 연구의 목적은 질적연구에서 디지털 도구 활용의 가능성과 필요성을 바탕으로 질적연구자들이 연구 수행과정에서 활용할 수 있는 디지털 도구 활용방안을 제안하는 것에 있다. 연구목적 달성을 위해 본 연구는 연구자의 자전적 경험을 바탕으로 질적연구 수행에서 디지털 도구 활용방안을 제시하였다. 구체적으로 연구데이터 수집과 관련하여 화상회의 플랫폼과 구글 문서의 활용, 연구데이터 정제 및 정리와 관련하여 인터뷰 전사를 위한 YouTube 자동자막 생성 기능과 비구조화된 텍스트 데이터 변환을 위한 의미연결망 분석의 활용, 연구데이터 분석 측면에서 ATLAS.ti를 활용한 사례를 제시하였다. 다른 연구자들은 본 연구가 제안하는 활용방안을 참고하여 자신의 연구목적과 환경에 맞는 디지털 도구를 선택해서 활용할 수 있을 것이라 기대한다. 더불어 교육연구에서 디지털 도구의 효과적인 활용을 확산하기 위해 국내 질적연구자들이 자신의 디지털 도구 활용 경험을 공유하는 연구가 수행되어질 필요가 있다고 제안한다.

The use of qualitative research in exploring educational phenomena is increasing in Korea. With these expanded uses, educational researchers are increasingly interested in how to conduct qualitative research. The use of various digital tools has been highlighted as an efficient and effective strategy to support qualitative research. Many international studies suggest the use of various digital tools throughout conducting qualitative research. On the other hand, qualitative research sites in Korea lack discussion and preparation for the use of digital tools. The purpose of this study is to propose a digital tool utilization strategies that qualitative researchers can utilize in conducting research. To achieve the purpose of the study, this study proposed strategies of utilizing digital tools in conducting qualitative research based on researchers autobiographical experiences. Specifically, we present examples of using video conferencing platforms and Google Docs for data collection, YouTube automatic subtitle generation for interview transcription and semantic network analysis for unstructured text data transformation, and ATLAS.ti for data analysis. Other researchers expect to be able to select and utilize digital tools that fit their research purposes and environment by referring to the utilization strategies proposed by this study. Furthermore, this study suggests that research that introduces other Korean qualitative researchers experience in using digital tools needs to be carried out in order to spread the effective use of digital tools in the educational research.
