도덕적 직관의 인식적 의미와 도덕교육 방안 탐구

A Study the Epistemic Meaning of Moral Intuition and the Method of Moral Education

본 연구는 21세기 들어 도덕 심리학에서 크게 주목을 받고 있는 도덕적 직관을 자연주의 인식론의 맥락에서 살펴본다. 도덕적 인지에 관한 인지과학, 신경과학, 진화심리학 등의 연구들이 축적되면서 도덕적 직관이 일상의 도덕 판단에서 큰 부분을 차지한다는 것이 밝혀지고 있다. 특히 인지과학의 이중처리이론은 인지를 두 유형(Type1, 2)으로 구분하고, 도덕적 직관에 관한 도덕 심리학적 논의를 폭발시키는데 이바지한 하이트와 그린은 이러한 이중처리이론을 기초로 도덕 판단에서 도덕적 직관의 역할과 기능, 작동 메커니즘 그리고 신경생리학적 토대를 폭로하고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 이러한 도덕적 인지에 대한 최근의 연구들에 주의를 기울이며, 자연주의 인식론 차원에서 도덕적 직관의 인식적 의미를 살펴본다. 그리고 심리학화된 도덕적 직관, 곧 자연화된 도덕적 직관이 신뢰할 수 있는 도덕적 인지로서의 지위를 확보할 수 있는가의 문제를 신빙론의 관점에서 접근해 보고, 도덕교육의 차원에서 도덕적 직관 계발 5단계를 제안한다. 하지만 도덕적 직관 계발 5단계는 시론적 수준이라는 한계를 갖는 잠정적인 방안이다.

This study explored moral intuition, which has received considerable attention in the 21st century moral psychology, in the context of naturalistic epistemology. An increasing volume of studies on moral cognition in cognitive science, neuroscience and evolutionary psychology has shown that moral intuition plays a significant role in moral judgment in everyday life. In particular, the dual process theory in cognitive science divides cognition into two types (Type1, 2). J. Haidt and J. D. Greene who contributed to amplifying moral psychological argument on moral intuition, revealed the role, mechanism, and neurophysiological basis of moral intuition in moral judgment based on the dual process theory. This study referred to recent research on moral cognition and discussed the cognitive meaning of moral intuition in terms of naturalistic epistemology. Also, it explored the question of whether psychologized moral intuition, i.e., naturalized moral intuition, can gain a status as reliable moral cognition from the viewpoint of reliabilism in epistemology, and proposed 5 steps of developing moral intuition based on a novice th expert theory in moral education. Also, the method for developing moral intuition in moral education as proposed in this study can provide a tentative guide to developing moral intuition, albeit on a tentative level.
