도박중독자 아내의 공동의존 경험에 관한 내러티브 탐구

A Narrative Inquiry Into the Codependency Experience of the Wives of Gambling Addicts

본 연구는 도박중독자 아내의 공동의존 경험과 그 의미를 탐구하기 위하여 수행되었다. 본 연구의 참여자는 남편의 도박 문제가 5년 이상 지속되고, 공동의존을 경험한 도박중독자 아내 3명이다. 자료 수집을 위한 심층 면접은 2021년 6월부터 7월까지 참여자당 2~3회 실시되었다. 자료의 수집과 분석 및 글쓰기를 위해 Clandinin과 Connelly(2000)가 제시한 내러티브 탐구 방법론의 현장에 존재하기, 현장 텍스트로 이동하기, 현장 텍스트 구성하기, 경험에 대한 의미 구성, 연구 텍스트 작성하기의 다섯 단계를 적용하였다. 참여자들의 공동의존 경험의 의미는 <원가족 경험에 뿌리가 있는 고통>, <의존자가 의존자를 선택한 결혼>, <사라져간 나의 주체성>, <도박 문제의 재정의>, <내가 원하는 삶을 찾고 살아내기>로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 도박중독자 아내의 공동의존 경험과 의미에 대한 심도 있는 이해를 제공하여 이들의 공동의존으로부터의 회복을 돕는 교육과 효과적인 상담을 제공하는 데 기여할 것이다.

Objectives: This study aims to explore the experience and meaning of codependency of the wives of gambling addicts. Methods: Participants were three self-identified codependent women whose husbands had gambling problems for more than 5 years. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews, with two or three interviews with each participant conducted from June to July 2021. Data were analyzed according to narrative inquiry procedures proposed by Clandinin and Connelly (2000). Results: The meaning of codependency experience includes “Pain that comes from the family of origin,” “My selection of the gambling husband at an unconscious level,” Loss of autonomy,” “Redefinition of gambling problems,” and “Transformation of self.” Conclusions: Results show the relational, familial, and social narratives that shape these women s codependency experience and suggest the significance of their meaning-making and changing in transforming self. Implications for counseling for the wives of gambling addicts experiencing codependency were discussed.
