여자 대학생이 지각한 아동기 정서적 학대와 신경증적 폭식 행동의 관계: 자기 존중감, 부적응적 완벽주의, 우울의 순차적 매개 효과*

Relationship between Childhood Emotional Abuse and Bulimic Behaviors Perceived by College Women: Sequential Mediating Effects of Self-Esteem, Maladaptive Perfectionism, and Depression

본 연구는 여자 대학생이 지각한 아동기의 정서적 학대 경험과 신경증적 폭식 행동의 관계에서 자기 존중감, 부적응적 완벽주의, 우울의 순차적 매개 효과를 검증하였다. 여대생 424명이 응답한 자료를 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 정서적 학대는 부적응적 완벽주의 또는 우울을 매개로 신경증적 폭식 행동을 예측하였다. 둘째, 정서적 학대는 자기 존중감과 부적응적 완벽주의, 자기 존중감과 우울, 및 부적응 완벽주의와 우울의 이중 매개를 통해 각각 신경증적 폭식 행동을 예측하였다. 셋째, 정서적 학대는 자기 존중감, 부적응 완벽주의, 우울의 순차적 매개를 통해 신경증적 폭식 행동을 예측하였다. 이러한 결과는 아동기에 부모와의 관계에서 정서적 학대를 많이 받았다고 보고하는 여대생일수록 자기 존중감이 낮고 인정받기 위해선 완벽해야 한다는 사고가 강하며 일상에서 우울 증상을 자주 보고함을 나타낸다. 또한, 자기 존중감이 낮을수록 부적응적 완벽주의가 강하고 우울 증상을 빈번히 보고하며, 부적응적 완벽주의가 강할수록 우울 증상을 더욱 빈번히 보고하고, 부적응적 완벽주의가 강하고 우울 증상이 빈번할수록 단기간에 많은 양의 음식을 폭식하며 폭식에 대한 죄책감으로 구토와 같은 보상행동을 보이는 경향이 높음을 나타낸다. 본 연구의 의의, 임상적 함의, 제한점 및 추후연구 방향이 구체적으로 논의되었다.

This study investigated mediating effects of self-esteem(SE), maladaptive perfectionism(MP), and depression(DP) on the relationship between childhood emotional abuse(EA) and bulimic behaviors(BB) among college women. A total sample of 424 college women participated in the study, and the findings included: (a) EA predicted BB via MP or DP; (b), EA predicted BB via each of three double mediating paths, including SE and MP, SE and DP, and MP and DP; (c), EA predicted BB through a sequential mediating path of SE, MP, and DP. These findings suggest that college women with greater EA in childhood showed lower level of SE, higher level of MP, and higher level of DP. In addition, those with lower level of SE reported stronger MP and high level of DP, those with stronger MP reported higher level of DP, and those with stronger MP and higher level of DP tend to binge and purge more frequently for a guilt of binge eating. Research and clinical implications, limitations, and future research direction of this study are discussed in details.
