사회자본의 교육적 활용에 관한 질적 연구: 저소득층 가정의 성공사례를 중심으로

Qualitative Case Study on the Educational Utilization of Social Capital: Focused on low-income family

본 연구는 가정 내 사회자본의 교육적 활용에 성공적인 저소득층 가정의 사례를 발굴하여 가정 내 사회자본의 활용 및 수용 과정을 탐색하고 그 성공 요인을 분석하는 데 주된 목적이 있다. 심층 면담을 활용한 질적 사례 연구를 수행하였다. 주요 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 자녀교육을 성공적으로 실천하기 위하여 사례 가정에서 가장 많이 활용된 사회자본은 ‘자녀와의 대화’였다. 이 밖에도‘학습시간 확보’, ‘학습친화적 분위기 조성’, ‘칭찬과 격려’등의 사회자본이 적극적으로 활용되고 있었다. 둘째, 사례 가정에서 사회자본이 자녀교육에 성공적으로 활용될 수 있었던 주요 요인들은 ‘긍정적인 부모-자녀 관계’, ‘학습동기를 촉진하는 가족 내 규범’, ‘잠재적 자원의 전략적 활용’, 그리고 ‘부모 역할의 균형적 분배’ 등으로 나타났다. 연구의 결과에 기반하여 저소득층 가정의 자녀교육과 관련한 논의와 시사점을 제시하였다.

The purpose of this study is to explore how social capital in family is utilized and accepted for children s education in low-income family and to analyze the main factors for success in child education. Qualitative case study using in-depth interview was conducted. The results of the study are as follows. First, parents were actively using social capital to support their children s education. The most friquently used social capital by parents was ‘talking with their children’. In addition, parents were actively using social capital such as ‘ensuring learning time’, ‘creating a learning-friendly atmosphere’ and ‘complimenting and encouraging’ for their children s education. Second, the main factors that enabled social capital to be successfully used in children s education in this low-income family were ‘positive parent-child relationship’, family norms that stimulate learning motivation’, ‘strategic utilization of potential resources’, and ‘balanced distribution of parental roles’. Based on the results of the study, discussions and implications regarding the child education in low-income families were presented.
