Grit and Cooperative Competence: The Mediating Impact of Children s Grit on the Association between Parent s Grit and Children s Cooperative Competence

연구목적: 이 연구의 목적은 그릿과 협동심의 구조적 관계를 밝히는 것이다. 구체적으로 이 연구는 부모의 그릿이 자녀의 그릿을 통해 자녀의 협동심에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고자 한다. 연구방법: 연구 자료는 한국아동ㆍ청소년패널조사 2018 1차년도 초등학교 4학년과 중학교 1학년 자료를 활용하였다. 먼저 부모의 그릿과 자녀의 협동심의 관계를 확인하기 위해 기초 모형을 분석하였다. 이후 자녀의 그릿을 매개 변인으로 투입한 최종 모형 분석을 통해 부모의 그릿이 자녀의 협동심에 미치는 과정을 탐색하였다. 그릿과 협동심의 구조적 관계를 밝히기 위해 구조모형을 동원하여 분석하였다. 연구결과: 한국아동・청소년패널조사 2018 1차년도 초등학교 4학년과 중학교 1학년 자료를 분석한 결과 두 집단 결과가 모두 유사한 양상을 보였다. 기초 모형에서는 부모의 노력지속이 자녀의 협동심(집단촉진, 팔로워십, 갈등문제해결)에 영향을 미쳤다. 그러나 최종 모형에서는 자녀의 노력지속을 통해서만 부모의 노력지속이 자녀의 협동심(집단촉진, 팔로워십, 갈등문제해결) 촉진에 기여하는 것으로 나타났다. 한편 흥미유지는 중학생 분석에서 자녀의 흥미유지가 집단촉진에 미치는 정적 영향만 유의하게 확인되었다. 논의 및 결론: 그릿 중 노력지속이 흥미유지보다 협동심에 상대적으로 더 큰 영향을 미친다는 이 연구 결과는 이후 협동심 발달 연구에 기초 연구로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

Purpose: This study examined the mediating impact of children s grit on the association between parent s grit and children s cooperative competence. Method: Structural Equation Modeling, with the adjustment of standard errors to account for hierarchical data structure, was employed using nationally representative data of Korean youths, Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey 2018(KCYPS 2018). Analytical strategy proceeded in two steps. First, the relationship between parent s grit, perseverance of effort and consistency of interest, and children s cooperative competence were estimated after holding family background characteristics at constant. After retaining the basic model, two factors of children s grit were specified into the equation to assess the mediating impact of parent s grit and cooperative competence. Data analyses were conducted on both the 4th grade elementary and the 1st grade middle school students. Results: Findings showed a positive relationship between parent s perseverance of effort and children s cooperative competence(group promotion, followership, conflict resolution), whereas the parents consistency of interest was not significantly associated with any construct of children s cooperative competence. In the full model, it was found that parent s perseverance of effort contributed to promoting children s group promotion, followership, conflict resolution through the children s perseverance of effort. This pattern results were consistent across age groups. Conclusion: The present study suggests the importance of the perseverance of effort relative to the consistency of interest in promoting children s cooperative competence.
