이해 중심의 수업 혁신을 위한 백워드 설계와 IB 교육과정의 통합 방안 탐구

A Study on the Backward Design and IB Curriculum for Teaching Innovation of Understanding by Design

연구목적: 본 연구는 백워드 설계와 IB 교육과정을 분석하여 통합 방안을 제안하고, 연구결과를 반영하여 이해 중심의 수업을 위한 지리과 교육과정을 개발하고 이를 토대로 설계 및 실행상의 유의점을 제안하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구방법: 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위해 문헌 연구와 사례 개발 연구를 진행하였다. 먼저, 문헌 연구를 통해 백워드 설계와 IB 교육과정의 지향점 및 특징, 템플릿의 구조를 분석하여 공통점과 차이점을 밝혔다. 그 후, 사례 개발 연구를 통해 백워드 설계와 IB 교육과정을 통합하여 지리과 교육과정을 개발하였다. 연구결과: 백워드 설계와 IB 교육과정은 구성주의라는 기저 이론을 토대로 개념 중심, 탐구 중심, 학습자 참여 중심 교육과정을 공통적으로 지향하고 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 두 이론의 템플릿 구조를 분석하여 각 단계가 작동하는 교육과정의 시간적 축의 차이와 공통되는 속성을 밝혀 통합 템플릿을 구안하였다. 결론: 백워드 설계와 IB 교육과정은 이해를 통해 전이를 추구한다는 본질적인 측면이 유사함으로 통합의 가능성을 확인하였다. 다만, 두 이론을 통합할 때는 물리적인 접근을 넘어 상호 유연하게 활용할 수 있을 때 교육과정 개발뿐만 아니라 실행의 과정에서 유용하게 작용될 것이다.

Purpose: This study proposes an integrated plan by analyzing the Backward Design and the IB curriculum. The purpose of this study is to develop a geography curriculum for understanding-based classes and to suggest design and implementation significance based on the results. Method: o achieve the purpose of this study, literature analysis and case development research were conducted. The background design, the orientation and characteristics of the IB curriculum, and the structure of the template were analyzed through literature analysis. And they revealed commonalities and differences. Then, through case study, the curriculum of geography was developed by integrating the Backward Design and the IB curriculum. Results: Backward Design and IB curriculum were based on the underlying theory of constructivism. It is aimed at the concept-centered, inquiry-centered, and Learner-Centered Education in common. Also, we analyzed the template structure of the two theories. The integrated template was devised by analyzing the template structure of the two theories and revealing the difference in the temporal axis of the curriculum where each step works and the common attribute. Conclusion: The possibility of integration was confirmed by the similarity of the essential aspect of the Backward Design and the IB curriculum pursuing transition through understanding. However, when integrating the two theories, it must go beyond a mechanical approach. It will be useful in the process of curriculum development and implementation when it can be used flexibly.
