에드가 윌렘스(Edgar Willems)의 음악 교육 연구

A study of Edgar Willems’music education

음악교육의 지향점은 음악적 심미안을 길러 주는 것에 있다. 음악교육의 목표를 보다 효과적으로 달성하기 위해 다양한 음악교육가의 교육철학과 교육방법에 대한 연구가 필요하다. 이러한 연구의 일환으로 문헌연구를 통하여 신교육운동의 시대적 배경과 윌렘스의 음악교육을 소개하였다. 유럽의 신교육운동에 영향을 받은 윌렘스의 음악교육은 이론부터가 아닌 음악적 체험을 통하여 음악과 가까워지는 감각을 키우는 것이 선행되어야 한다고 주장하였다. 음악교육의 시작점으로서 청각적 교육을 우선하여, 음에 대한 의식과 음악적 감각을 체득하게 한 후에 이론 및 악기연주의 단계로 나아가야 한다고 하였다. 이는 음악에 대한 흥미와 음악적 귀를 통하여 음악을 평생 즐길 수 있는 인간으로 길러낼 수 있는 음악교육법이다. 본 연구는 윌렘스의 음악교육 분석을 통해 우리나라 음악교육에서도 학생들의 음악적 감각을 키움으로써 자연스럽게 음악성을 도모하는 방향으로 나아가야 함을 제시하였고, 이러한 음악교육법은 음악전공자뿐만 아니라 일생에 걸쳐 음악을 접하게 될 모든 학생들에게 큰 도움이 될 것임을 시사한다.

The purpose of music education is to cultivate aesthetic discernment. In order to achieve the goals of music education more effectively, it needs more research on the educational philosophy and methods of various music educators. As part of this study, it introduced the historical background of new education movement through literature research and the music education of Edgar Willems. Willems, who was influenced by European new education movement, argued that music education should be preceded by developing senses to approach the music by musical experiences, not by learning theories. He also said that as the starting point of music education, it should be learning auditory education first, and then learning the cognition of notes and musical senses before moving on the stage of learning music theory and playing musical instruments. It is music educational methods that can foster people who can enjoy music for lifetime through musical interest and ears. This study suggests that the methods which students can develop musical senses in musical education in Korea by analysis of Willems’s music education and the way how to promote musicality naturally. These methods of music education suggest that it will be helpful not only to music majors, but also to all students who will learn and approach to music throughout their lives.
