보편교육의 가능성으로서 종교

Religion as a possibility of universal education: focusing on Comenius concepts of Pampaedia and Pansophia

이 연구는 현대사회의 교육이 지향하는 가치인 보편교육, 즉 모든 인간에게 동등하면서도 인간적 삶을 위한 모든 유형의 지식을 전수하는 보편교육이 실제로는 종교적 가치에서 기반하고 있다는 전제에서 출발한다. 코메니우스는 자신의 저서인 『대교수학』과 『범교육학』을 통해서 이러한 보편교육을 위한 교육적 이념을 펼치고 있다. 얀 후스의 경건주의적 종교개혁 정신과 순교정신을 계승한 보헤미아 형제연합교회 소속의 일원으로서 오랜기간 망명지에서 연합교회가 설립한 학교에서 현실 참여적 교육활동과 함께 근대적 교육이념을 제시한 코메니우스는Pampaedia와 Pansophia 개념을 통해서 자신의 보편교육 이념을 제시한다. 두 개념을 굳이 필자의 언어로 드러내자면, Pampaedia는 교육의 형식 내지 방법이라면 Pansophia은 교육의 내용에 해당한다 하겠다. 코메니우스는 모든 사람들에게 모든 것을 가르쳐야 한다 (omnes omnia docendi)는 차원에서 보편학교(schola universalis)의 제도적 이념을 제시하게된다. 종교개혁 사상의 가장 큰 영향은 모든 국민에게 교육을 시켜야 한다는 사상적 뒷받침을 제공했다는 사실이다. 우리는 코메니우스의 교육사상이 현세에 실현됨으로써, 현대적 차원의 보편교육이 전지구적으로 수행되고 있음을 목격할수 있다.

This paper starts from the premise that universal education, which is the value aimed at education in modern society, that is, universal education that transmits all types of knowledge for human life that is equal to all humans, is actually based on religious values. Comenius is spreading his educational ideology for universal education through his books, Didactica magna and Pampaedia. Comenius, a member of the Unitas fratrum which inherited the spirit of martyrdom of Jan Hus, was a long-time exile and practiced in a school established by the Unitas fratrum. Through the concepts of Pampaedia and Pansophia, he presents his own universal education idea. To transform both concepts in my own language, Pampaedia is the form or method of education and Pansophia is the content of education. Comenius presents the institutional ideology of the universal school (schola universalis) in the dimension of “to teach everything for everyone” (omnes omnia docendi). The greatest influence of the Reformation was the fact that it provided the ideological support to educate all people. We can witness that the universal education at the modern level is being carried out world widely, as the educational thought of Comenius is realized in this world.
